Help with top link adjustment for rotary cutter.

The PTO shaft has a plastic safety sheath over it that doesn't rotate with the inner power shaft. It's a "what if" that shouldn't cause too much concern, IMO. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Before....actually it would still be possible to do it now. Because my lift pins were so high and I had the cutter too low, the runners dug into the ground and lifted the back of the cutter almost stright up, shearing the toplink pin. I keep the runners up higher now BECAUSE I lowered the pins so I could raise the cutter higher and still have enough lift to raise the cutter off the ground. I use to have to drag the cutter around with the tail wheel dragging. The top link chain is there because I sheared the second pin just by the acute angle of the cutter at the bottom of a steep hill. It did not flip up the second time but cut the pin any ways. I will take a picture.

If the PTO shaft is the right length it shouldn't happen. But it is a good point to consider.
Without the chain, what is the effect on the top link or the two strap braces on the deck given the same scenario you mention? Something will bend, as the rotary cutter won't carry the rear end of the tractor.

Exactly...if you had a stiff brace from the front to tha back of the cutter it would snap your top link pin or have to bend something. That is what happened to mine. So the chain fixed it.
