I suppose it does have that yellow plastic cover. If that was enough though then why all this worry about people getting wrapped up in the shafts? Actually, no, my slip clutch is out there spinning like a mofo with those long spring loaded bolts just wanting to grab something so a failed chain from the tailwheel to the top link could drop into a blender.

The chain from the tractor to the top link as posted could fail without getting wound up.

If you cut often in the type of terrain you're describing, you may want to use "check chains". Even though the lower arms would tend to let the front of the deck drop when you get to the bottom of a valley (exactly as you describe), the chains wouldn't let that happen, since they support the deck essentially at the rear tractor wheels, which is typically several feet forward of the lower arm position. As Mickey used to say, "Try it you'll like it!"

Describe "check chains" as to where would they attach and how are they used and adjusted? Are you talking about using chains to support the front of the cutter and not depending on the drag links?
