The oil companies made a profit on $5 dollar oil and they are making a profit at $90 and 85 million barrels a day and they will make a profit on the very last well at $50,000 a barrel and 100 barrels a day. If you think you are being ripped off then buy less of it, walk to work or ride the bus and hoe your garden by hand.

Yep....the oil companies make a profit. Profit is the reason they take the risks of being in business. I dont have so much of a problem with their profits as I have a problem with the dollars paid to the folks that own the wells. THOSE boys are taking our countries money.....and look at the cities they are building with our dollars. Yikes. Those dollars are NOT being re-invested in our country.

All the more reason to reduce our consumption and find other means so that we become energy self sufficient and stop sending our money and troops over seas.

I suppose a Nissan Leaf recharged from a wind farm could pass that test. But moving closer to your job and cutting needless miles does a better job of it. Don't worry though, as soon as Gas gets to $10 per gallon we will seek and find alternatives and some will make money on developing them. And it will get to $10.00 and beyond, it is just a matter of when.

Absolutely you are correct in that your only recourse against big oil is to make "adjustments". That does not mean that raising prices 20 cents a pop wham bam thank you mam does not invalidate a gripe on the part of the general public.

If it get's to $10.00 a gallon. I'll have to find some other way to get around. I can barely afford to keep gas in my truck now.

In fact my truck is currently real close to empty at the moment. lol

The only time my truck has ever had a full tank since I've had it, was the time a friend of ours filled it up on her money.

I asked her if I could borrow some gas money to take my mom and us to see my dad when he was in the hospital.

She said no problem, just follow me down to the gas station. Once we got there she told me to fill it up. And not to worry about paying her back.

Though I did pay her back by doing some yard work for her. (hauling off brush)

She wouldn't accept any money so that's the only way I could pay her back the $60.00 it took to fill it. lol

Just looking at the opposite view of oil company actions. They go to the worst points on the globe and extract oil from miles below the surface of the land or ocean while surrounded by brigands and terrorist then transport it home ,refine it and deliver it to your local station and sell it to you for a few pennies over their cost plus the taxes the government has tacked on. Sure it bites hard when you have to fork over $100 bucks to fill a tank that cost $75 just a short while ago but the facts don't justify the anger and resentment many direct towards the oil companies.
Imagine if you will filling a drum with water from your tap and shipping it back to Saudi Arabia. How much would you have to charge to break even on that.
And no I have never worked for an oil company, I'm just looking for the real cause of our problems and have looked at this and moved on.

You don't know when you are well off.
In Britain and France I pay over $8 a gallon (US gallon) for fuel. I fill up my diesel VW Passat estate and it costs me nearly $150, but it would run for 900 miles on a motorway at a steady 70mph on that - and it can do nearly 140mph if that is what you are looking for. Why not try smaller more fuel efficient vehicles?
