I need a small trailer to pull behind the bx2350. I don't have a welder "yet"; so looking for off the shelf methods. So far I've only seen a monster dump trailer ($2K), or two trailers at (dare I say it HF).

Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices

I like the heavier version of this, but not the cost at this time.

Has anyone used the one in the link? Comments?

Your help is appreciated.

I think you would find a highway-capable trailer far more versatile instead of that specialized item.

I presently use this $600 Home Depot trailer and consider it the best of the ultralights. (empty its 400 lbs flat deck or 500 lbs with sides attached, 2050 gvw.) Normally in the orchard I pull it with the tractor, but it's light enough that the Subaru can pull it on rough ground.

I started with a tiny HF 40 x 48 trailer. I originally bought it as a jeep trailer for camping, capable of going anywhere offroad that I could get my Trooper, and still use it for that.

If money is really tight, I have seen people build a larger trailer on the HF 40 x 48 chassis using an extended tongue, and the one you are considering requires the same additional materials to build a deck anyway.

8 inch tires are fine for a trailer that tiny. And the 40 x 48 is only $139, $20 cheaper than the one you are considering.

But my advice woud be to buy Home Depot's Snow Bear ultralight as the best all around combination. I think it is night vs day better quality compared to HF's small trailers.

This is great timing as I am also looking at the same unit. I cannot justify the cost of the larger unit, becasue I don't see when I will be pulling 3000lbs with my bx. The 1200lb capacity of the smaller version seems like it would fit my needs, not to mention the $150 price tag. My concern is how well it fits together. I like the wagon asepct becasue it means that I can use the FEL to load it and then back right up and pull it away (don't have to worry about it tipping).

I agree with getting a hiway certified unit. I use this 4x8 trailer on my farm.. pulls fine behind a tractor, as you can see.. also , in a pinch.. pulls behind a truck...

I have that wagon from HF, You can see the pic under my name.
It is what it is, a $140 wagon, nothing to write home about. The fit and finish is typical of HF, it bolted together without trouble. I built the deck from a 4'x8' sheet of PT plywood.

In most cases, I would agree with you on the Hiway capable trailer; but as Kwolfe mentions, the four wheels makes it easy to load and tow away. Yes, you can block up a regular trailer to stabilize it while loading. This purchase would be for loading wood, dirt, gravel in mass quanitities (2-3 scoops) and hauling it to its location on the property.

I have the plan for hiway setup for early next year hopefully. Either a 14-16' flatbed trailer or a utility dump trailer with ramps to haul the tractor. That's where I'll put the money towards in the long run.

So, while I'm definately not a HF fan, I guess in this case something that's cheap will work for me. I will take a look at what else is there anyway....no hurries.

Frosty, thanks for posting, I had not seen this trailer before.
Kenny, thanks for pointing out that your avatar IS that trailer. I have seen your pic before but thought it was a bigger, more $, trailer.
I am now anxious to get one of these trailers, if I can get it locally (no shipping charge). I have 3 highway trailers, including a 7K# dump, 5x10' utility and an offroad/jeep short mini-pickup bed trailer. But have been looking for something cheap that my offroad golf cart, and BX, will pull easily AND NOT have to deal with a dang tongue jack, etc!
Cheers!

Here is a bigger picture....

As far as shipping, My local HF store said they did not carry it in house and would not order into the store for me, I hope you have better luck:D

Oh, and BTW, I did repaint the wheels JD Yellow of course!;)

You sure did a nice job on that trailer!
10-4 on the shipping charge.
I see the kids have the heiarchy thing figured out

48-state shipping is only $12 when ordered from HF's mailorder site. That link in Frostyford's first post goes straight there.

OH!, Thank you for pointing that out California ... feel stupider than usual now :|

Thanks for the pictures Kenny. At 1200lbs, that could take a few bucket fulls from my little bx, not to mention it looks fun for the kids. I am with you Homebrew, I think I am sold. That is cheaper and holds more capcity than anything you would find at Lowes or Home Depot.

Two things:

Kenny, thanks for the larger pic. Leaning closer to HF now (scary!)

Homebrew2, "offroad golfcart"....???....Too much homebrew maybe? ;-)

Maybee it's a CUV.. like an ez-go or yerfdog scout. I'd classify those as 'offroad golfcarts.. etc..

ALWAYS too much homebrew
My cart is a VERY modest example, many are much nicer and/or more extreme. (JimBrown and TxDon (I think) have really nice ones). Mine has a 4" lift and 20" ATV tires with a high-torque spring on the driven clutch and homebrew'd utility bed. Note the steering wheel and bench seat, unlike ATV's ... perfect for driving girlfriend down to the creek to watch the submarine races at night ;)

After getting it bolted up and square, weld it up. Beef up as needed. One company I used to work for would buy cheap stuff (conveyers, elect. motors, etc,), just to get bid low enough to satisfy bean counters. Then when that crapped out, they would replace with quality materials. (Company was Procter & Gamble).

I guess the question is kenny, is it only good for hauling hay, or will it hold the boosted 1200lbs? I am looking to use it to move mulch, top soil and large rocks around the yard.

I have not loaded it up that much, I have used it to carry hay, loads of kids and adults, and tree debris. If I where going to haul dirt, I would limit it to two scoops, mulch at least three or so.

Do you have a plan to unload it? Remember this is NOT a dumping trailer/wagon...

Unloading might be as easy as block the wheels, use the bucket edge and pull it off.

I have thought hitching to the trailer ball on the loader bucket, then lifting to dump the trailer.

This seems like it should work for a light load such as pruning debris. I'm not so sure about a heavy load of gravel.

Has anyone tried this?
