Preparedness actions...

Review your severe weather safety procedures for the possibility
of dangerous weather today. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio,
weather.gov, or other media for watches and warnings. A tornado
watch means that conditions are favorable for tornadoes to form
during the next several hours. If a tornado warning is issued for
your area, move to a place of safety, ideally in a basement or
interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.

Storm Prediction Center Public Severe Weather Outlook (PWO)

Note that High Risk days are rare, generally not more than two or three per year if any at all. The last one was May of 2017. They almost never 'bust' (few storms produced), so if you're in the area, you should be taking this seriously.

This has been a very volatile year for weather. Crazy.

If only you had your location in your profile, we could advise you if you needed to take shelter AND we could pray for you.

Or tell you to bend over and kiss your ***** good bye. All kidding aside, be safe. Our weather in Eastern Kansas looks pretty volatile also, just that time of year. Pretty snowy winter up here so I kinda predicted a stormy spring.

This has been a very volatile year for weather. Crazy.

Back around 1976 I recall discussing global warming with my friends. Yeah, we knew about it back then. The predictions varied from floods to droughts. My opinion was that dumping all that excess energy into the atmosphere would result in more violent storms.

I think I nailed it.

Oh here we go, global warming, climate change, or what ever.

What was it doing the age of dinosaurs? Then the earth experienced the Ice Age. With the Ice Age being long gone, maybe we are returning to the "normal climate", what ever that may be. :confused3:

I believe climate change is a constant, cyclical, never ending world event.

I wouldn't worry about excess energy as much as much as man made air and water pollution. The ocean is rapidly becoming one giant cesspool. More chemicals and plastics, anyone?

We missed the first wave; next one due about nine this evening. I guess the roads are crowded with storm chasers, some from foreign countries.

The weather is really screwed up ! When MA is warmer than SoCal, there has to be a big problem.
Although I have seen snow in SoCal, close to San Diego, it has only been a dusting... I'm still waiting for the big storm !

If we get some wind and nasty looking clouds, like yesterday, I feel very uneasy. It doesn't help having no insurance what so ever!

I can't imagine what it must be like down there.

Yesterday in shorts, today in a winter jacket and knit cap. Got a good fire going.

That should be illegal. If you don't belong there, don't be there.

The National Weather Service uses storm spotters, including storm chasers, to provide ground truth in order to issue better warnings. Each NWS office has a chat room where NWS staff share realtime information with emergency management, law enforcement, fire departments, media, academic, and Ham radio personnel. The storm spotters relay information to the chatroom, either directly, through Spotter Network or a liaison person. The NWS can direct the spotters to an area to see what is happening. Many chasers broadcast realtime video that the NWS monitors.

In our county we are at the limits of both the Fort Worth and Shreveport radars. Due to the curve of the earth the radar is looking at 8,000-10,000 feet above ground level. Big difference in wind speed and hail size at those altitudes vs the ground. The spotters can better tell what is hitting the ground, improving warning accuracy.

I always wondered if these chasers performed any valuable service or were just thrill seeking while making Internet Revenue.

There's a big difference between 'spotters' and 'chasers'. The first can be helpful. The second have resulted in at least four deaths that I know of, maybe more.

OK, so it's at least six dead and others injured:

Mobs are ruining storm-chasing and creating additional risk - StarTribune.com

There’s a reason why my biggest fear about storm-chasing isn’t weather-related; it’s not the softball-sized hail, it’s not hurricane-force winds, and it’s not even lightning or the tornado. It’s other chasers. On Monday, when a large tornado passed by Mangum, Okla., the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported just one injury, not from wind but “involving two vehicles with storm chasers.”

The perils have been manifest before. Three storm chasers were killed in an accident in Texas on March 28, 2017, when a pair of Weather Channel contractors blew through a stop sign at 70 mph. In 2013, veteran storm chaser Tim Samaras fell victim to a tornado near El Reno, Okla.; his son Paul and chase partner Carl Young also perished. A Weather Channel vehicle was tossed 200 yards, breaking the driver’s neck. Scores of other chasers cheated death that day.

I couldn't begin to think or feel how those folks deal with such nasty weather in moment.

Diggin It has it right, the chasers/spotters are becoming more dangerous that the storms. There is no provisions in Oklahoma law for chasers/spotters to disregard traffic laws. Its time for law enforcement to crack down on all the reckless behavior.

I couldn't begin to think or feel how those folks deal with such nasty weather in moment.

I have lived in tornado alley all my life, seen too many tornado's and their destruction. Years ago before all the storm spotting tech showed up you just learned when to pay attention and which clouds were dangerous.

Now with radar on cell phones its pretty easy to see it coming and get in the cellar or drive out of the path.

The Parks and Recreation folks are recommending that we all stay home for the Memorial Day holiday; the lake will come to us.

There was a tornado near Adair, Iowa two nights ago. It wiped out a house and barn.
It happened at 1:30 in the morning and the temperature was 55 degrees.
That is highly unusual.
One dead and one in critical condition.

I HATE wind! It makes me very nervous.

As far as I am concerned. WE did this! Mans superiority over nature. BS!
