Needing some help. I have a Hinomto E230 was bushhogging on it just stopped. Has diesel and checked oil. Everything was ok. What will cause it to just stopped. Drained the diesel and changed the oil it turns over and tries to start battery is fine. What could be the problem

There is a screen in the sediment bowl that needs to be cleaned every so often. Fuel filter... There is a bleeder screw on the injection pump that should free flow fuel when loosened. You do not have to remove all the way. Let a cup or so run through. then it should crank up. If you do not know the right screw I will send pic.

Mr. Topbuilder please send photo. I appreciate the reply someone said it may be the fuel pump. Hoping its what you are saying. I was bushhogging and it just stopped. It will turn over and it tries to start then it wears the battery down even when its hooked up to jumper cables

How many hours? Any chance you have gas in the fuel? Have you looked at the air cleaner? Check to see if the fuel shut off lever is functioning correctly and is not pulled out. Make sure your three point hitch is in the down position. Do not over heat the starter. They are expensive little buggers.

View attachment Hino fuel pump.pdfView attachment Hino fuel pump.pdfFuel start up procedure:
Move lever to off on sediment bowl. Remove glass bowl and screen. Clean and replace. turn fuel lever back on.
Fuel tank should be nearly full.
Loosen fuel filter. You should see fuel flowing through glass bowl. Allow fuel to drain on top of filter until full. Tighten back up.
Loosen bolt in pic "fuel bleed screw". 10mm socket or wrench. It has a slot for screwdriver, I would not use a screw driver. Loosen screw, do not remove. Allow fuel to flow out until you see no more air bubbles. Tighten bolt. Now it should start without cracking the fittings at the injectors.

What does your hood decal say, Hinomoto or Southern Tractor?

The glass bowl is to catch water and other nasties. The screen should be up in the housing. Someone may have trashed it. No hour meter?

Could this tractor have an electric fuel stop solenoid? I'm not familiar with that model. That might explain a quick shutoff.

70s tech. Manual pull lever to shut it down.

black smoke coming out of muffler trying to start no luck

Sounds a little puzzling  - does it seem to fire on one cylinder or fire occasionally, but not enough to run (even rough/unevenly) by itself?

I'm wondering if some water has got through the filters and into injectors - could have damaged or blocked their nozzles.

Annette, we need you to help us with as much information and detailed description as you can provide - it reduces the chances of mistakes causing unnecessary expense. I'm not at all familiar with this specific engine, but have considerable general diesel knowledge.
How long was it running and working before it stopped?
Any idea of how old the fuel is? (Sometimes, but not always, old diesel becomes contaminated with what we refer to as "algae" which creates all sorts of havoc - usually requires a comprehensive clean-out from the tank to the injectors ..... don't stress yet!).
Also, did it just suddenly stop, begin running increasingly unevenly and finally splutter to a stop, or just become more and more "tired" over several minutes and then finally stop?
During all this time, was there any exhaust smoke (aside from your mention of black smoke when trying to restart it), if so what colour?
Were there any unusual engine noises?
Could it have been overheated - was there sufficient coolant in the radiator?
Was any water found in the fuel filters?
Any idea how old the fuel filter(s) are?
How long have you owned it?
Have you used it much/frequently?
Have you had any previous trouble similar to this situation?

Keep us posted!

Hi there! I know some years have passed by, but I guess I might try my luck...

What was the issue on this tractor? (I want to learn as I've got a similar tractor.)

Thank you.

Greetings from Portugal.
