I have nearly been hit a dozen times walking to work in the same spot. Several ending with screeching tires. Every time I have had the walk symbol and the driver has ran a red light at a long left hand turn. 2 or 3 get hit a year there. They just do not look and run it speeding up, sometimes 3 or 4 cars run it after it is red. When that light is red the crossing light is on the walk symbol. Just people thinking they are the center of the universe and no one else needs to get where they need to go. One lady in particular had the nerve to honk and gesture at me like I was in the wrong after she had to slam on her brakes. I was having a particularly bad day and walked up to her window and let her have it, but she did not learn. I sometimes see her running that light to this day

Get checked out by a DR no matter how you feel. Also contact the driver's insurance co. You don't have to ask for anything at this time, and don't sign anything saying your are OK and it is settled. You could have a problem that doesn't show up for a year.

Yeah, we've got an intersection by my job. South one-way street crossed by a two-way east/west street. The westbound traffic has two lanes; left turn lane and right straight lane. They get a green left turn arrow and a solid straight light for 10 seconds, then the green left turn arrow turns solid green and eastbound traffic is free to proceed. However, at the same time the westbound left turn arrow turns to solid green, the east/west walk light on the south side of the intersection turns from wait to walk! So, all the cars that are plowing through the left turn lane see it switch to solid, trying to beat the soon to be oncoming east traffic, and never look at the crosswalk. I've been bumped twice. I've also slammed several cars with my umbrella, lunch bag, 6 pack of bottled pop, 2 liter bottles, etc... two of my co-workers have fared less and ended up in wheelchairs for months with broken legs. YIKES!!! We've petitioned the state (its a state highway) to make the turn arrow after the straights, but to no avail.

Ultrarunner glad you are ok and sorry to hear of this. Very fortunate you are pretty much OK. But. As others have said, get yourself checked out by a doc there!

No doubt about being fortunate... not a lottery ticket buyer... but I can make an exception.

Thanks guys for the support... writing down what happened is cathartic in clearing the mind.

Honestly, I've fallen off a latter years ago that laid me up and a nasty fall on ice really did a number on my wrist... so far no broken bones... then again I am more of the cautious type...

Part of me feels bad for the driver... I can only hope I never find myself as a driver in a similar situation.

As I think about it... probably the single biggest factor is the crosswalk is not at a major intersection and there are no lights/signs. I'm going to have to take a closer look at it tomorrow.

Even though this had nothing to do with a red light runner... red light running is endemic here in the Bay Area or simply ignoring lights... see people purposely blowing through 4 way stops with the reasoning the other already has to stop.

Always young men that couldn't that could care less what happens.

Last week a couple of blocks from here a 14 year old in the crosswalk was killed... sheriff was in pursuit and the car being pursued hit the teen at very high speed on his way home from school... a real tragedy.

Be safe out there... especially with the holiday season upon us.
