Glad you are ok.
I have to agree with the blind spots in new cars. Its unreal how bad they are. My wife's car has blind spots on the front pillars. Its not bad but it is bad enough that when turning, if the other person is moving at a certain rate, they can stay in the blind spot. Scary.
We went to China recently and traffic over there is interesting to say the least. :shocked::laughing::laughing::laughing:
I don't know if what we saw is The Law on the books but it certainly is The Law on the street...
When driving, which we did not do, or walking across the street, DO NOT *** LOOK *** at the traffic.
Yes, you just read that right. :shocked:

:confused3::laughing::laughing::laughing:
If you look at the traffic, you do NOT have the right away and YOU are expected to yield.
Yeah, read that again. :laughing:
So what you do is look out of the corner of your eyes and just walk across the road. :shocked:

Now, I would look to find a safe time to cross but once committed, you did not look directly at traffic.

IF YOU DO, the vehicles WILL expect you to get out of the way and they WILL NOT slow down.
What makes this even worse, is that there are many motorcycles/scooters, and at night at least 1/3 of them DO NOT USE HEADLIGHTS! :shocked::laughing::laughing::laughing: They think the headlights will use gas so they do not turn on the lights at night. Did I mention there are NO street lights? :shocked:
At night what you end up with is dark roads, that are bumpy as all get out because they hand float the concrete, with the only light from store fronts, houses and car headlights, with motorcycles driving with out headlights, on roads that are not marked with traffic lanes, while all of the drivers and walkers not looking directly at each other. :shocked:

:shocked:

:laughing::laughing::laughing:
You hope you can hear the oncoming traffic but drivers will honk the horn when passing other vehicles AND the motorcycles honk at walkers to see if they want a ride. You can get a ride for an RMB or two. 6 RMB to the US dollar.
So there is constant background noise of honking horns as you try to cross the streets, while NOT looking at vehicles, but trying to see motorcycles without headlights at night. Great fun! :laughing::laughing::laughing:
One of the guys we were with has spent quite a bit of time in China and earlier in the year he was hit by a car.

No damage to him but he did kick the car.
The man who owns the company we were visiting drove us to a few places. Whenever he would pull out on the secondary road, no traffic lanes marked, he would say, "Stay in the middle so they can pass you on the right and left." :confused3::shocked:

When he first did this I thought he was talking to us but after the third or fourth time I figured he was reminding himself. :laughing: Cars and bikes WOULD pass him on the right and left. :shocked:
We took a bus trip to a bigger city, 75 cents for an hour trip in an express bus with AC. Can't imagine taking the NON AC bus. On the way back I lady in a car pulled out in front of the bus. She had both hands on the wheel, she NEVER looked at us when she pulled out into the road nor when the bus passed her. Eye forward the entire time. The bus driver honk the horn to tell everyone he was passing her even though this was a four lane road.
Twas an adventure I tell ya! :laughing::laughing::laughing:
Later,
Dan
