Oh, I'll point fingers, and there will not be any politics involved.

Here are the basic FACTS:

No one knows how many barrels are spewing on a daily basis.

Oil is coming on shore every minute. Based on a well problem over 60 days ago.

People are waiting in line for food and sustanance because they cannot work.

Now it seems, we politely declined a proven technology from another country, due to cost and regulations.

RT,

I think it was until late May or June that BP was estimating the release of oil to be in the range of 5000 barrels a day.

All oil addicts have to share some blame don't you think? Just like the drug addicts in the US, and our inability to deal with drug addiction, makes us partly to blame for Mexico's drug wars. If not blame then at least complicity.

Some skimmers are certainly better than none. I don't know how effective they would be for capturing the underwater plumes, which are also subject to speculation as to size and quantity - last I knew.

Note that in the Comments part of the article on the Dutch skimmers, there's a couple of recent posts that completely contradict the article...they claim the offer instead was accepted in mid-May, and that Dutch skimmers were received by the end of that month, including a link to pictures of one in operation, on location in the 10th of June.

True? who knows....I am skeptical of most TV/radio commentators, regardless of which side of the political spectrum they come from.

How popular is it do you think among the gulf states that allow drilling to take a pause so that the oil companies can come up with a viable plan for cleaning up the next oil spill?

I doesn't appear to be at all popular. Like a crystal meth addict watching their teeth rot while they look for their next fix?

I can understand the process and the personal hardships, but it does have a surreal quality to it. I am wondering how this era will be treated by historians 200 years from now.

You mean like how favorable will we compare to the Greatest Generation?

You mean like how favorable will we compare to the Greatest Generation?

I mean on a more global and grander scale. Like the Colonial Era, Roman Empire, Viking Conquest or similar. Events that unfolded over many generations that transformed or affected significant portions of the world.

Lots of things in the mix. Population explosion, industrialized manufacturing, the industrialization of agriculture, unheard of mobility, rapidly expanding energy consumption, science going mainstream, truly global wars and conflicts, the expansion of general education and almost universal access to knowledge. These are all powerful elements that help define the current era.

It would be interesting to know what it all looks like in hindsight after enough time has passed to enable a rational analysis devoid of current politics. None of us will be reading that book.
