The operations of companies before government oversight was deplorable - some out of lack of knowledge on the effect of the pollutants and some from just plain greed. There is more to it than short term profit!

Definition - environmentalist -someone who works to protect the environment from destruction or pollution

Why do you have to use labels? Are you classifying 90% of the climatologists (scientists) as environmentalists because of their scientific conclusions. Pretty cool theory but not a logical argument for your point of view.

China does have an advantage toward the future because lobbyists and corporate greed does not have the same influence there. We as a nation are falling behind in research and development of energy efficient. They are making huge investments in renewable technologies and more efficient travel. Our high speed train spending is anemic in comparison. If developed many travel times would be similar to flying and at a fraction of the energy use - long term money saver.

Renewable Energy Investments Surge on China, Wind (Update1) - BusinessWeek

"Investments in China were the largest of any country at $6.5 billion, 24 percent more than the first quarter of 2009. Wind farms accounted for $14.1 billion of the total, 43 percent higher than in the same period a year earlier."

High-speed rail in China - Wikitravel

China is building a high-speed passenger rail network, similar to French TGV or Japanese Shinkansen 澱ullet trains? but far larger and faster. The overall plan calls for over 13,000 km of lines in a national high-speed passenger network by 2012. As of October 2010, 7000 km are already in service

"The country has set a goal of reducing 1.9 million tons of sulfur dioxide and 1.12 million tons of carbon dioxide this year."

A little evidence of school children being forced as claimed - who and how many of the 60 million students? - where did you get this from? Also the book contained many photos, not sure about the movie...they are real...where's the damage? Some complain about looking at fossils - not a reason to omit from school.

Fuel is costing us much more than $5 per gallon if you consider the hidden costs. Hiding the cost results in much more waste. There are many countries doing quite well where the cost at the pump is much higher. Remember we are spending more on defense than all the rest of the countries in the world combined. Enjoy your $3 gas and the huge deficit.

PS-the Chinese might just hire the environmentalists :confused2:

A co-worker was in Colorado Springs yesterday. He said it was 67 degrees outside there. And yesterday temperatures in Northern Maine were warmer than temperatures in southern Florida.

Then explain to me why it is 16f here right now, below the norm.

Quote: Excuse me, but, if the environmentalists are going to put forth the theory that man is causing global warming, then the burden is on them to prove it. At least they could provide some convincing evidence, that would be something other than a guess, before they force radical changes in our lives.

Sorry but you missed my point!!

Neither conclusion can be proved - maybe the present course will result in a "radical change in our lives". Not a good argument to throw out the possibility or vilify any person or scientist who disagrees.

The burden to scientifically defend their conclusion is on all sides equally.

Never said that. the scam is all about money and power. Telling people what to do and what to think, democrat's way - same stuff I lived through in the east block.

It's amazing that the social elite refuse to listen to those who lived it.

No, it's not. And your argument that it can't be proven one way or the other is a false one, being conveniently used to justify radically changing our lives. We are not asking for it to be proven 100%, yes that can't be done. We are asking for it to be proven, at least beyond, well there's CO2 in the atmosphere, and we have released some, therefore, we must have caused the earth to warm. That is called a hypothesis, not a conclusion.

In time, we will be able to draw proper conclusions, But, of course the environmentalists, refuse to wait because they see an opportunity to force their views on us with scaremongering tactics, so they play the "We can't wait!!" card.

I love the "labels" argument, another common smoke screen. Please tell me how I refer to a group of people, without referring to them? Do you not know what I mean by environmentalists, without me specifically listing each of their names? Sorry, I was just simply trying to save space for my comments.

There is science agreed to by 90% of those who study climate concerning the effect of CO2 levels. Also can it be proof if its not 100%???? There is a clear consensus from scientists based on the evidence.

Let me see - scaremongering - if we use energy more responsibly - conserve - investigate alternatives - life as we know it will cease!!!

There is no good reason to vilify a whole group of people - it doesn't support your view of the topic or your conclusions.

Not sure of the exact stat but when mt st helens blew it was estimated to have put more co2 into the atmosphere than the entire country for something like a year. vesuvius, krakatoa, et al. I'm all for conservation because it just makes sense and if we can reasonably reduce sulfur emissions that we know contribute to acid rain I think that's a good thing. The global warming issue however, thus far, is junk science that has come to a premature conclusion that man is causing increased co2 that is warming the environment. Why do some scientists come to this conclusion? Cause there's oodles of grant money they're chasing. Citing even 100 year temp trends when compared to the scale of the time the earth has been around is meaningless as is citing the non exisitence of global warming because we have a cold winter.

Can man have a long term effect on the environment? Sure but the environement is also remarkably resilient and adaptable. Species have come and gone long before we ever got into the food chain and will do so again. It might include polar bears, who knows? I think Darwin did a piece on this........

Bottom line is at this point with the information available, to be either a total believer or non believer in man cause global warming, just means you've taken a political position unsupported by facts.
