I'm working on building my own box blade. The project grew from me needing a ripper right now. The ripper project is now done so I'd like to finish the box blade. I'm having trouble finding the wear edge. Does anybody have a source or a material specification?

Cord,
Not sure where you live but if you live in snow country the folks that do the snow plowing change out blades on occasion and the blades they use should work for you. I have a couple of the cast blades and they are okay for some things but can be brittle and the one I have on my FEL did crack and was welded but the weld did not hold up. I think it was from the 50's. I am having the old blade cut off and a new blade welded on, the guy that is doing it is using 1/2 inch steel with an edge ground on it. This should last me as long as I live and should work for you.

Over here in Holland, there are some parts retail store that sell universal wear parts. also, in a 30 km radius from my place there are about 4 welding shops of dirt scoops and land rollers that have them in stock. Those are the places to start your search.

If you want to make your own, Hardox 400 is premium. Other types are manganese or borium steel.
