Oil & Fuel Home heating oil = Diesel?

The point is that they are NOT the same everywhere and that you have to ASK to find out what you are purchasing. With the new low sulphur requirements being implemented I guarantee that they might not be the same everywhere.

Notice I said "HERE"! And I did ask the delivery man...thats the only way I knew.

But the bottom line STILL IS...if it will burn in an oil frnace..you can run it in a diesel tractor...the only diff is when it comes to oil changes because of the sulpher content in the fuel. The "high supler" stuff is "suppose" to mean more frequent oil changes...???

Change the word "suppose" to "requires" more frequent oil changes.....and don't forget that the lower cetane values of the home heating oil also lead to more frequent major repair bills too! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

All you accomplished there is a play on words and nothing more. I used the term "suppose" because I didnt have th manual right here in front of me to POSITIVELY quote the differences in FREQUENCY. But..as I stated prior...HERE the fuels are the EXACTLY ( is that clear enough?) the same so the "frequent major repair bills" problem doesnt exist!

So just how often are these FREQUENT REPAIR BILLS cropping up??? If "exactness" in posting is required here..then lets be "exact".

You have the cetane rating and the sulfur content for your home heating oil?

Guaranteed the minimum cetane rating of the rot gut fuel oil you have is lower than 40 and the maximum sulfur is way higher than 500ppm

There is another fuel that doesn't have road tax that can be used as diesel. Jet fuel or "Jet A" is kerosene. Jet B has anti-icing added to it. The airlines only pay about $1.50 a gallon for it right now, but that is because they buy so much and hedge their positions. It probably costs the same or more than diesel for the average consumer at most places right now anyway.

ROT GUT ?? Ahh We have digressed to name calling now. Im gone..you "petro tech wizards" take over!!

It is rot gut simply because the supplier is dumping it on you to use as home heating oil because it does NOT meet the minimum specifications required for sale on-road.

Approximately 5% of the entire annual on-road diesel fuel supply is condemned by fuel inspectors prior to its delivery to the consumer, this represents 1 out of every 20 gallons of fuel produced.

All adulterated (gasoline), contaminated (water, bacteria, fungi, dirt, etc.), and substandard (does not meet minimum cetane or sulfur requirements) diesel fuel supplies are subverted to the home heating oil market since they are illegal to sell on-road.

Geez, didn't you know that simple fact? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
