Oil & Fuel Home heating oil = Diesel?

Number 2 fuel oil is all I've ever used in my oil furnace. This year I switched to low sulfur B20 #2 for heating and my tractor. The company that delivers it said they do blend in #1 during January & February if needed to keep the gel point low enough for outside tanks. They also add anti-gelling to the #2 fuel for the winter months.

Storage of Diesel--Can it go bad?

issues are water in fuel from condensation in a less-than-full tank, and algae ...solutions are water-block filter or other, and specially formulated algaecide for diesel fuel ...for really long term storage, diesel fuel can be "reconditioned", or "polished" ...pumped out, through a filter and back in ...like kidney dialysis?

I am hesitant to put this in my tractor but if it really is the same I can use the stuff that I paid about $400 for.

Diesel,home heating oil and fuel oil are all the same thing.
You could have been filling your tractor from the tank all along.

</font><font color="blue" class="small">( Maybe you should set up the old furnace oil tank to be your new tractor fuel tank for the long term. The cost per gallon of delivered heating oil should be much less than the cost of road diesel. Cheaper for campfires and tractoring.

Set it up out of the sun with a filter/water seperator, pump (or gravity), and fill hose and you're in biz. )</font>

</font><font color="blue" class="small">( Actually I never had an oil furnace. I have a 50 gal drum in my shed, with the tractor, and I purchased an electric fuel oil pump from Northern Equipment. Has a 6' hose with nozzle and runs off of a 12 volt battery. Makes fueling up a quick and easy job. I also now have a diesel generator for backup power, so for that as well, I usually have lots of reserve fuel at the ready.

Around here heating oil runs 50-60 cents cheaper per gallon than <font color="red"> OTR </font> diesel.

NO, NO, NO.

For the umpteenth time, it all depends on where you are located and from where you supplier is purchasing his stock. For example, here in New Hampshire, I can get 3 distinctly different products that are labeled as off road. Also normal pump diesel is not usually home heating oil.

Bottom line is to ask you supplier. In your case they are the same, in my case they are not.

They certainly ARE the same here! "AG" diesel ( off road diesel) and home heating oil...same product...dye and all. HIGHWAY diesel....no dye..and about 45 cents per gallon TAXES on it. Other than the "dye job"...STILL the same stuff.

But the bottom line is..ANYTHING you can burn in a home heating furnace will work fine in an off road diesel engine.
