It's easy to spend someone else's money but I'd say $2500 is a screaming good deal. In my 'hood residential septic systems start at $25,000 and can exceed $50,000. IMHO in the long run you should spend the money and do it right.

there are plastic tanks made for septic systems, or at least they showed one on this old house: so i assume they where using a tank that was approved?? but i doubt they are available everywhere: in 1964, i welded 2, 55gal barrels together for a septic tank, it was still working 2 years later, when my parents built a house and we moved out of the trailer: there where 4 of us living in the trailer for that 2 years

If you can pay $2500 and get the job done, go for it. Mine was twice that 6 years ago. If you ever decide to sell you will be glad you did.
