Home made tractor cab ?

Has anyone out there built their own cab ?

i've been thinking that it might be possible to clamp on some metal pieces to create a frame from the the BH assembly to the ROPS to create a cab frame and then drop a golf cart cover over the entire structure.... just to get some protection from the wind and blowing snow....


just wondering if anyone else has tried this and might have some suggestions...

Here is one of the best implementations of a home made cab. I know that it is much more than a golf cart cover, but it is inspiring!!

This is what I did with a golf cart cover, some 3/4 copper pipe, plywood, and a few hours of my time.

That looks like a great rig you have there.

Several years ago, My dad made a cab out of an old Jeep top I couldn't use anymore (it was stretched out and made too much noise). He basically did the same thing you did, except we used electrical conduit since I have a bender.

On his MF 1020, it would get so warm inside, he would need to open a "window" to let some heat out

If anyone wants it, I'll be replacing my current jeep "Soft top" in the spring. You can have it for the shipping costs. It will come with the top, rear window, and rear side windows. All you need to do, is come up with something for the windshield.

Thanks for the ideas and links.... a lot of clever ideas between using cooper and pvc tubing to make the frame...... there were also several nice set ups on the links to the previous threads.... this is the best web site for help and ideas... thank you all again..... it also helps to know i'm not the only one these crazy ideas..... i'll let you all know what i come up with to keep the "idea sharing" moving forward.....

UPDATE:
since it's time to go into "winter tractor mode" i put the blower on this afternoon and will put my home made cab on tomorrow, i just realized that i never posted the outcome of my project from last year.... i thought it might be helpful to others contemplating a home made cheap cab for the winter. as always, the ideas came from some of the other posts on this site, so i just wanted to repay the kindness..... i went with 1 1/2" pvc for the frame, osb for the roof with pipe insulation on the edges to protect the golf cart cover and hose clamps to tie the pvc frame to the tractor. about $85 with the cover... may not look great, but it works... a couple of pics....

It works. That is all that counts. Hopefully tomorrow, we will finish up, and I will grab some pics. We bought an ATV cover, and with some cutting and bending, we made it fit.

Function over form. Keeping dry, and warm is most important.

Also trying out the new light. Other than a few adjustments, we are good to go.

nice job. it looks like it will do the main job of keeping blowing snow and wind off of you. also, easy to take off for the warmer weather....

That is exactly what we thought when we heard the weather forecasts. We will make a frame like others have done, probably n the spring. The all we have to do is pull the cover over, and loop the Velcro, and we are good to go.

Nice job JIMB . I put the 3-M outdoor storm window kit over the roll cage of my RTV. Used the double stick tape and a little strapping tape , then the hair dryer trick and it tightend up really nice, nice and clear to look through. I left the doors open but then again I am not blowing snow with it either.
