If you can figure out how much db your generator emits then you will have an idea of how quiet it is. I read any generator below 68 db is quiet and acceptable in some municipalities. Wish I could find a site that had the db rating for standby home generators. Can anyone here help especially those that install them.

Radio Shack used to sell a pretty inexpensive db meter, but not sure it makes sense if this is all you are worried about, unless someone complains of course.
I hear Radio Shack is about to go bankrupt so maybe there will be some good deals. They don't have enough money to even close their bad stores, per financial news.

When it comes to noise, just try your best to make sure your neighbor's bedroom window is not facing your generator, as mine was...and no choice either.

The individual generator mfg sites include db ratings, but I'm not aware of a single site that lists them all. I checked Generac and Honda and they list noise stats.

All I know is that my Husqavarna 24 hp Kawasaki motor is a lot louder than my Generac which has a 18hp Vanguard engine. The db on the Generac is 67so I guess that is quiet.

My Washington home is on 17 acres and the terrain is similar to a puch bowl...

Typically, it is peacefull.

Two summers ago, the condenser fan was going out and a neighbor from some distance came over to find out what the strange noise was... he said, sometimes he can hear people talking on the deck even though he really is quite far away and we can't see each others homes.

One of the guys in the area has a Diesel Honda unit that is smooth and near silent... almost like a indoor exhaust over a range... always thought this would be the unit to get and then found out Honda is out of the Diesel genset business and has been for years.

Most of the generator manufacturers seem to list the noise rating. If you have a smart phone, there are decibel apps, but I don't know how accurate they are.

For a Kohler system, if there is a problem with the unit during the warranty period, is the dealer labor for an on site repair included as part of the warranty?

if it's a permanently installed generator, wouldn't it have to be? Not like you can take it in to be fixed. Portable ones, you bet, you haul it to a dealer.

with this windy weather, I bet some power is going to go down due to trees. Hope it misses us all.
Best thing a generator can do is scare away an outage.

I want to know why people wait till the winter to think about it ???? It's a pain in the but to install the in the winter.. Our busy season is between Oct. and Feb.
