I see a couple of issues
1. Whats the digging depth looking at it it seems it wont reach more than about two feet max
2. thats a really wide bucket for such a light machine.

You can flip the boom so the cylinder is underneath, then you can make a more elegant dipper cylinder mount.

Overall, it looks a underbuilt in terms of strength. It needs to at least withstand the cylinder forces at the hydraulic relief pressure. You can reduce the relief pressure of the valve if you need to.

btw, "fu" is a somewhat vulgar misspelling of few. (maybe it's just me)

As someone who is spelling challenged, I think the fu is nothing more than a typo or misspelling.

Hey Welderboy, first, thanks for taking the time to shoot, edit and post the videos, nice job on youtube aranging your videos.

With regards to the build.

You are learning a ton as you go, in the end that is the most important thing.

I owned a caddigger 628 for a number of years, very tough and well built well designed backhoe.

I think a problem you may run into is your metal bracketry on the trailer I'm affraid may bend up easily under a 13 HP motor running a pump around 2500 psi with 2 inch cyls. You are going to be making some decent lbs forces.

As reference, my machine ran 1 inch pins and I bent the boom / dipper stick pin, that's some hard core forces, and that was running 5 hp at approximately 3000psi.

I was lifting rocks that weighed somewhere around 750 +lbs like they were popcorn.
My recommendation to you would be, run super low PSI at first, would hate for you to tear up your machine or your self.

I used 1/2 thick, 3 inch flat rolled stock to mount the backhoe to my Kubota B6000E.

In the end, build it exactly as you think you should, take or leave the advice. Nothing beats experience.

Is it just me or is his voice getting a little lower with each video???

Good luck welder boy and keep sharing!!!!!!

Sincerely,
Joel

I should dig down 5-6 feet.

I have cut down the bucket too 12" since the video i posted the link to.

I know this thread was posted in 2009. But thought I'd reply anyway.

Hi Welderboy. I love the backhoe. I was wondering what you were gonna use for counterweight?

I'm building a backhoe onto the back of a riding mower and am having to add some counterweight to the front. Otherwise it was tipping it backwards.

For the counterweight. I'm gonna either use some heavy steel. Or make a concrete block. And mount the block to the front.

I know I'm gonna have to add at least 200lbs. To keep it from tipping backwards. I had the front wheels off the ground.

I need to take some pics of my backhoe, and post them in my thread. That is as soon as I get a card reader for my laptop. Since my other computer with built in card reader died.

The backhoe is nearly built. But I just have to get a few more cylinders, and hoses, as well as the fittings.

I can't wait to actually use my backhoe when it's done.
