Sounds like a plan. Gram's would probably intervene, though, and I'd end up with ANOTHER!! project! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Black Walnuts, heck around here the squirrels won't even touch them they are so plentiful. We take the Stihl saw to any trees that might drop nuts on the grass that we care for. We leave the ones in the wooded areas alone to do their own thing.

i have black walnut trees all over the yard, nothing but a pain. i find the best way to get wallnuts for eating or baking is to BUY them. for me the effort is not worth the cost.

This is very close to what Id like to build for my tractor. I want to run the fan off the PTO instead of a gas engine. Where did you get the fan?????

JD hamer mill but most old hamer mills have a fan on them I use a case hamer mill fan in my shop as a sawdust vac runs on 2HP elect moter.

hamer mill? Whats that? I have seen this sort of fan on dust collection systems and occassionally see them as an item at the local salvage yard/machine tool dealer. Im keeping an eye out for one thats bigger than what comes w/ the conventional small shop dust collector.

This is a picture of a leaf vacuum I made. This is mainly a test for posting a picture. More to come if it works.

This collecter still has to be tweeked.
I want to narrow axle, or offset it to the right of the mower.
I was given the blower unit. It sat brand new in someones garage for a few years, bad gas!. The box is made out of 9/16
Lexan. It will hold just short of 2 cubic yards.

Our church property in NJ had one of these to handle the leaves on about 5 acres with LOTS of oak trees. Used Sears tractors, cart, blower, etc. AWFUL noisey rig. When I took over the mowing chores, I dumped all that stuff, bought a Scag ZTR mower and chopped up the leaves with it. Just discharge the leaves to the inside of ever-increasing rounds until the engine starts going chunk-chunk. Then turn around and discharge them the other way. Worked fine.

If the Scag was a mulching mower, it would have worked without doing the chunk-chunk stuff, as this is what I used in La with leaves falling 6 months out of the year: a mulching mower.

You're losing a lot of nature's fertilization for the grass by not mulching those leaves right in place. If it lowers the pH (rare), lime is cheap.

I vote to tow it out onto a frozen pond like the one poster said. Use it for ice fishing.
