Horse Drawn Implement Information

While turkey hunting yesterday, I came upon a horse drawn sickle bar mower. It was two deep in the brush to get a real good look at it, but once I get some time, I want to pull it out.

Any good sites for information on restoring horse drawn implements? My neighbor uses mules around his place and I have some Amish neighbors in the county as well. I want to research via the net first before I go asking for help from the neighbors.

I have a horse drawn dump rake and a single bottom plow that I want to restore and have looked at getting some other pieces. I have found it difficult at best to find good information on this old equipment. I bought a book on amazon.com called Encyclopedia of American Farm Equipment and Antiques (or something like that). It has lots of good pictures (many colored) of an amazing assortment of old equipment. But is doesn't give a lot of info on original colors on much of the old stuff.

A couple of other titles that might be helpful are:
(1) Horsedrawn Plows and Plowing and (2) Haying with Horses. Both of these books were authored by Lynn R. Miller. If your local public library doesn't have them the librarians should be able to get them from another library on interlibrary loan.
