Dung beetles do an amazing job but I don't know if they can tolerate your winters, we had them at our last place and they could crumble a pile in about 3 days, we are trying to find some again.

when we ride in town we do poop bag but in gravel road we don’t bother if it’s right in the middle of the road and in a pile we get down and kick it in the ditch but if it’s spread then it’s stay there in a day or two it’s dry up.

Around here, farmers will allow the snowmobile clubs to make a trail across their land. If the sledder's don't stick to the marked trails, the farmer calls the club and informs them of the activity. The club knows that without the farmer's blessing, the trails will disappear.

Find out who is on the local horse council and describe the issue with them. They know that public scrutiny is not good PR for future events, parks, and trails.

Would a $15 per poop pile clean-up fee charged to the stables appease the private shared driveway maintenance crew? That would be $3600 a year if you averaged 20 piles a month.

Herbicides in horse manure is a thing. Some years ago my wife got a load from a stables and we put it on her garden beds. The tomatoes barely grew and would not set fruit. She looked up the common herbicides and they were broadleaf specific so I used the rest on the lawn.
”fresh manure” and other organics need to be composted before use as a growing medium.

Besides we always had fun throwing the horse apples at each other when we were kids. Might be a fun game with the wife. :ROFLMAO:
Maybe you should pitch that one to the Nintendo or Xbox people first. My wife doesnt appreciate playing catch in the barn.

Never been in a horse apple fight, but got into a frozen yellow delicious apple fight in Boy Scouts. OUCH! Lot of bruised up kids hiding behind trees. 🙃

Poop from a vegetarian animal like a horse or a rabbit is usually very dry and not odorous like that of a dog or cat. I find it hard to believe that a car running over a pile would get its wheel wells covered with a stinking amount. It is not nearly as messy as that of a cow, pig, cat or dog. Clearly OP has never owned a horse. I rather step in a pile of horse poop with my boots than a mud puddle or some wet clay any day. After a few steps the horse poop is no longer on your boots but you will usually have to hose them down to get the mud or clay off.

Lots of replies and opinions. I'm actually surprised at the ones who are ambivalent to taking a dump on others property...makes you wonder what their own property looks like... at any rate, we will take the actions we need too in order to resolve this amicably here.

That's a bit different; I see piles of THAT in places where I would rather I didn't. I've raised pigs so I won't insult them by comparing them to some people...

So now it's on your property?

Weren't we talking about a dirt road before?

Anyway, good luck. Make sure you lawyer up good. This could get real entertaining, really fast.

Should probably move back to the city, I think you'll be happier there.

Yes, Its My property as well as the other neighbors on the road. It does not belong to the people who ride the horses on it. Its a 100% private road, Owned and maintained by the residents period.Im not a city boy, but also don't like horse **** in my house. If thats your preference, its ok, I don't judge

We have our share of that here in Boston..Google Mass and Case Boston. .. They just recently "cleaned up" the are ..Which means they moved the mess down the street where it was less noticeable to the general public. The final straw was when they found a dead woman ( Overdose ) who had been a *** toy for the other junkies on the street until she began to decay and smell... Welcome to Boston

To clarify points in question. The road was here before the lots were permitted. It was a public road that was then converted to a private road via a planning board decision. IE no public access granted and no town responsibility for maintenance. Road does not grant any other public access by right. The stables in question are a somewhat new 6-7 year old business
survey the other property owners along the road and if there is a majority consensus that the horse crap is a problem then you have an edge when talking to the stable owner about cleaning it up.

sounds like it’s an occasional thing for the riders to use the road anyway so many others are bothered by it you can probably get something done.

if you are the only one, probably - tough luck.

In our area there are a few private roads but they are all in gated communities where access is denied or approved at the gate. Does "your" private road have signs up stating it is a private road and trespassing is not permitted? If not, how do you expect people to know it is a private road?

   / horse etiquette #158
The less you say the smarter you sound.
Do you KNOW for a FACT that one of your neighbors hasn't given permission to the riders to use THEIR PRIVATE ROAD?

I do not, Im also confident that they can't give cart blanche permission due to the legal ownership of the road. In other words, if I said to 10 of my buddies it was ok to ride their dirt bikes up and down the road all day.. Its ok. ...I do not have that right.
