Hose Fitting Sealents

This is the first that I've ever heard of NPT threads on hydraulic lines. My oldest tractor is a 1988 Case Dozer, and my next oldest is a 1998 New Holland Backhoe. Neither of them use NPT threads on their hydraulics.

Is it an age thing, or is it for lines that do not have a lot of pressure?

A lot of 10,000 psi rated fittings are NPT. So it is most definitely not a low-pressure only type of fitting. ;)

Almost every LOG SPLITTER I have seen uses NPT on cylinder and control valve...... I find statement that people have never seen NPT fitting on hydraulics rather naive....

It's cheap. A lot of fittings made for farm use have NPT threads. For example it's hard to find AG couplers (ISO 5675) that aren't NPT.

LocTite 545 is what's worked best for me.

A lot of Kubota's, even newer ones, use NPT. As mentioned pretty much every consumer grade log splitters use NPT as well.

I use https://a.co/d/7GwXqZd Permatex teflon pipe dope. It's done ok for me for the bits of hydraulic stuff I do. I hate the Teflon tape. Keep thinking about the Locktite hydraulic thread sealant stuff, but haven't gotten around to it.
