Hot temps, don't know how southerners do it

I have lived in the south my whole life. It wasn't as bad when I was a kid and we didn't have a A/C. It got bad when I was 18 and bought an A/C for my bedroom. Now 30 or so years later the heat is rough to handle. If I get outside and get to working early it doesn't bother me when it gets really hot. But if I'm in the house most of the day and go out after it is already scorching outside, then it bothers me! It's the humidity that is bad!!!

I am in Quebec Canada...an hour north of Montreal. The weather suits me fine...as long as my igloo holds up at least 6 months out of the year I wont be considering moving further north ;)

We had a cool Spring, and we had lots of wind early this year as usual. Now when it gets hot and you'd love a little breeze, the wind usually dies completely. However, this afternoon with the temperature on 100F and the heat index at 106, we have a little breeze. It's just like going from a regular oven into a convection oven.

We've just got through a week of rain and yesterday was a mix of sun and cloud with a good stiff breeze. No humidity to speak of and about 65 degrees. Sweet heaven. Good for working, no bugs and refreshing. I'll take it.

NOTE: The pool is also about 65 degrees!:(

Started yard work early today. Fired up the weed eater about 6:15 am to get a jump on the heat. After about an hour and a half had to take a break to cool off. Dripping wet in about 30 minutes. Heard it got up over a 100 yesterday. Late in the evening feels good, that is if low 80's feels food after being in the 100's all afternoon.

No real rain to speak of. They keep saying later this week maybe. The garden is still hanging in there. Every thing but the bell peppers, they seem to have given up. only 2 of the origional 9 still green. They got watered every evening like everything else but I guess the heat just got to them. The garden is shaded very well which seems to help.

Isn't it funny how a sweat-soaked wet t-shirt feels miserable, but a towel soaked in fresh water feels wonderful on your face, arms, chest, back. . . .

After working full days and long hours getting ready for our 4th celebration, I told my wife that I felt really lucky to be retired 62 yo man who could work all day long and feel so good after a nice shower, dry clothes, and a hand full of ibuprophen to calm my aching joints. It could be a lot worse. I'm thankful and happy with my health. I'm actually really lucky to be able to do what I want to do, but at a reduced speed.:D

You surely are lucky Jinman. Or in most cases it is more to take care of yourself when younger, luck typically has little to do with being in shape. Recently I needed somebody to move a piano with me and it was pretty hard to find somebody in my age group (mid forties) to have enough back for a job like that.
I take the ability to work hard to old age as normal, since my dad is 76 and still going strong. Just yesterday he texted to my cell phone that he cut all grass on our property overseas - about three acres, but he uses scythe to do it and my mom follows with a hay rake and she is as old as he is.
Of course, me being the good son I am, when he is boasting too much about his age and achievements, I remind him that Joe Redington, was 80 years old and he finished the Iditarod. :D

Started yard work early today. Fired up the weed eater about 6:15 am to get a jump on the heat.

I did about the same thing Friday, but I did wait until almost 6:45 a.m. to fire up the string trimmer since I'm back in town and didn't want the noise to disturb any neighbors.:) This morning I did a little tree pruning, starting about 6:30 a.m. and was through within an hour, shed the soaking wet clothes, got a shower, and think I'll call it a day as far as work's concerned.:D

I have started to purchase shirts that are made from some sort of moisture wicking fabric. They are commonly used by sportsmen such as runners. I get them on sale at the end of the season really cheap and I think they work. T shirts are hot and soggy in no time, these often have little holes for air to breathe through. I really like these shirts, if you can find one try it out.

They are also good as a starter layer in the cold weather.

We cleared brush Saturday till around 11:00, but like Bird said, the older I get the hotter it seems. I now know why rich folks have a summer home in a cooler climate.
