burn pit ... what's that? ;) In NJ, we can't burn ANYTHING like that but they sell a ton of free standing fire pits at the big box stores. Go figure.

Very timely thread and every ones comments. I have a similar house (mid to late 1800's) close to the road and the cost to bring to code is not worth it. Thought about moving it, but also too much $. Has anyone tried to list on Craigs list "free house"? And let someone else do the work?I could probable do the same routine but there are asbestos shingles on mine. There is some really good lumber used for sheathing. 2"x12"-24"x8' rough cut (bark on the edges) and it must be worth something. P2180024.JPGP2180058.JPGP2180065.JPGP2180067.JPG. Let me know if these photos come across clear. Would love to be able to market the wood if there is a market for it. Seems to be a lot of old barns out there.

Here is the one I am about to take down. I have considered letting one the trees fall on it, or letting the local fire department use it for live training (burn, forced entry, etc). I will be sure to video the deconstruction.

Any other creative ideas?

We tore down a house built in 1920, tobuild our home. It too, was a mess. I was only able to save some brick, and some old double hung windows, and a few hundred board ft of T&G clear doug fir flooring.

I have used up all the bricks. Put some into a fire pit, some more lining the driveway, and the rest into an extension to the concrete around our fire pit. Makes for a nice story to tell folks that visit. Sounds like your bricks have even more stories. I sure would not have been giving yours away, not even selling those. Sounds like there is a LOT of history in them.

It is a great job Stoney did and I would use that as my goal. I have to work weekends only as the farm is hours from my home. One wall at a time, asbestos shingles first and dispose, then sheathing which is some pretty, pretty good stuff. Some t&g and some plane planing. I guess they used what they could find. there is even some painted interior framing which obviously came from scrap of something older then late 1800's. Tkapeleer, that is some kind of house. What is the age?
