We met our roofing crew yesterday. We were out "goofing around" at the place and the roofers drove up. I think they wanted to show off their next job. We gave them a tour and offered our sympathies. Asked what kind of donuts/cookies/beer they like. I don't envy them at all, but they seemed pretty excited about it. The one guy said they'd be delivering nearly 60 squares of shingles this week but the boom truck won't reach to the top. Hope I don't have to schlep 'em up there /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: House, Turret Roof Framing

Well, our framers are definitely hating us now! They've started framing the turret roof and although it's not as high as the main peak it's a lot steeper. Had to meet with the builder out there today to go over a construction detail in the ceiling, turns out the eight sides of the turret are not equal due to a load bearing wall below. We originally wanted a cathedral ceiling in there but they talked us out of it based on previous experience. Said it would look really odd. We still have the option for a tray ceiling which we'll probably do.

Can't say enough about this builder. We've enjoyed up-front and open communication on these sorts of issues and they are more than willing to accomodate our wants while keeping the overall budget in mind. My advice to anyone shopping for a builder... find someone you "click" with. You've going to live with her/him for a long time during the construction /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: House, Turret Roof Framing

RobS,

Our plans originally called for a cathedral ceiling in the turrett portion of our roof, but in an effort to contain costs and potential problems we opted for a tray ceiling as well instead.

Robs,

How is the progress coming with the roofing? Due to the weather in Upstate NY, it has rained pretty much most of march, and has been raining off and on for the last two weeks. Tomorrow nice and then rain all the rest of the week. It wouldn't be so bad if the excavators were getting ready to start for us, but they have other jobs to finish first. So it could be 2 or more weeks before they begin my site clearing.

At this rate we are talking end of October, early November to move, that is not nice.

Hope all is going well.

MDNY, lots happening except getting to the store for camera batteries /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

All that's left of the roof sheathing is one panel on the turret. I suspect they are using that opening for access to the main house roof for another day. Should be able to finish that up tomorrow as the weather is supposed to cooperate for one more day. I ran into the lead framer this evening and we had a nice chat. They started cutting window openings so it's looking more "house like". He wants to set windows Monday so he'll have his whole crew there that day. I think that'll be another beer evening for them /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif They've also started punchlist stuff on the first floor framing as they wrap things up. Still have to do the porch roof and the basement steps, both of which need masonry/concrete work.

We met with the kitchen designer last night which was fun. One more meeting with her and she'll get the cabinetry ordered. Meeting with the siding guy next week but our GC is having trouble finding an excavator interested in the driveway work. We need big equipment, but it's not a big job for those guys.

All in all, lots of fun. Also trying to get things wrapped up at the current house, inspections and packing. Both tractor seat and bicycle saddle time are suffering lately /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

You must be getting the weather we've been living with for the last several days. Supposed to start raining again Thursday for us. The mud continues /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Nice to hear you sold your old house, one less thing to worry about. We also just sold ours. Only problem is we have not eaven gotten the plans yet for the new one./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif We put our house on the market 3 weeks ago. Houses in this area have meen real slow to sell in the past, so we wanted to get it on the market soon. Well it sold in 3 weeks. Some times you just cant win. At least the new owners wil let us rent, so at least we don't have to move till the house is done.

Any idea how long your new one will take? Hope you get those plans soon /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
