how big of a box blade should I get?

So I want to get a box blade for my mahindra 4025 4wd. The back of the tractor is almost 7' wide. I was at the dealer the other day and he mentioned I should be looking at 8' wide models so it will Cover my tracks and be able to angle it etc... no I was looking at Web site for everything attachments and there 8' models are rated for tractors 50-75 hp and there 7' models are rated at 30-60hp.....which way should I go?
I will mostly be using it for drivaway work and and for clearing /leveling work on mymy deer food plots. Any advice?

ok thanks....I just didn't want to get one to big and have the tractor not be able to handle it , or vise vers get one too small and not be happy

What kind of implement? You say angle it & box blade. You don't angle a box blade but you do a back blade.

At any rate it should be a bit wider than your tracks. If its a back blade it should clear your tracks when angled.

Weight us your friend. Blades need weight to dig & cut into the dirt. If its light not only will it not dig well it will get torn up.

If the blade is for snow not dirt, it can be a bit lighter & still work.

I'd rather have and not need it than need it and not have it.

Having said that, if I had to do it all over again, I would have gotten 7' for my 6' wide 40/36 hp pto L4330. I can always take a smaller/lighter/narrower cut or go slower with a 7' if I run out of power but there's no way to make a 6' into a 7'.

If Box Blade is narrower than your rear tires, you will not be able to take more than two or three pulls in the same place.

Box Blade will be in a shallow trench, tractor higher, on right and left tread paths.

Mostly important in foundation work.

I would say an 8 footer for a rear blade and a 7 footer for a box blade since it sounds like your tires are turned out to the 82" width. Get as heavy as you can afford. I would stay away from light weight and then adding weight, that can end up in implement failure.

I have a 72" box blade for my 60" track (L3200, 32hp, R4s, 3,500ish lbs + box blade). If I find a good deal on a 60" or 66" heavy box blade, I'd probably upgrade from my medium/lighter King Kutter box. Preferably a 66" as that would give me a little clearance to clear my tracks. The King Kutter works ok, but could be a bit heavier to dig into some of the harder ground. I run into traction limits when the box is 60-80% full depending on the ground. I don't regret getting the 72" box blade (well I bought it new & now would never do that again as I have better knowledge of what to look for on Craigslist for a beefier blade at half the price), but a few inches thinner might be better for my uses.

My box blade is also my go to ballast implement, having a heavier but slightly narrower one would be better for that too. My rotary cutter probably does the job better (similar weight, but the cutter has a lot more leverage), but is much less convenient when maneuvering.

Ya I'm talking a box blade. I have a 7' harrow and it's as wide as tractor . The dealer told me a 8' . He sold me the tractor and harrow.
When I said angling it I just met taking up on the 3pt arms on one side for doing small trenches and stuff...sounds like 8' is the way to go...

I like a box blade to be as close to the width of the tires as possible. Not any narrower than the tires, and not more than 2-3" wider on each side if possible.

If a 7' box is wider than your tires, then that is what I would get.
