So the minimum distance to the pivot point would be measuring perpindictular to that line passing through the pivot point?

Thanks, that helps me follow the formulas and torque applied. I can see how the length of the ram and the angle at which the ram attaches between the frame and blade can also have an effect.

Thanks for all the replys and realy good info.I will use a 4" single clyinder. For now this project is on hold because I just bought a front blade that has hyd lift and angle that I have to figure out how to mount and plumb. Thanks again.

I have a Frontier RB2196H and it has the angle cylinder which is a 2-1/2 in bore x 12in stroke which gives me 40 degrees of angle both ways. Bull..........

4 in cyl is a bit of over kill, but if they are that cheap, and you have the extra bucks, then go for it.
