Well, you learn something new every day...Thanks.

GM has been making heavy 1/2's since the 80's on and off, maybe earlier. My good buddy in HS had a GMC heavy half in 89, not sure what year that truck was, but I remember him having it in 89.

Ford still makes the heavy 1/2 F-150 and has for some time. Its now called the F-150 7700 package. You do not see many. I am a Ford guy and I have only seen a handful other than the one I had.

One of our co-pilots at the company I fly for had a early 2000's Chevy 1500HD identical to the one in the picture above, white and everything. He traded it for a F-150, then a Durnago.

Chris

If you zoom in on my picture you will see the 1500HD why they did this who knows they look the same as the 2500s side by side with out looking at the 1500HD on the doors you cant tell the difference.:confused3:

Yep, you'll see some of the trucks that look like the f150s from 97-2003 are really F250s. And for a few years I think 01-05 GM offered what was known as the 1500HD.

I am just looking to the future, as you are probabally eventually going to want a trailer big enough to haul everything, without having to unhook the bushhog and tucking it up under the loader.

LD1,

Yes I will. But that will have to wait for a while...

It may have already been mentioned, but I am pretty sure the heavy half aka light duty 3/4 ton Ford from the 1997 up era had 7 lugs on the wheels.
True half ton had 5 lug, heavy half/ light F250 had 7, 3/4 and one ton had 8, and the Fsuperduty had 10.

The F250 "Heavy Duty" and the F350 became known as Superduty trucks in 1998 (MY 1999), at the same time, they discontinued the Fsuperduty, and began making the F450 and F550, and got away from the 10 lug wheels of the original Fsuperduty.

My understanding of the difference between the Chevy 1500hd and 2500hd had more to do with gear ration than anything else. Same 8 lug axles, but different ratios. Though I am not 100% certain that is the only difference.

Well, if bushhogging is going to be 90% of what you are trailering for, you can always leave the loader behind and get a smaller trailer, and be fine with your current truck.

Yeah, I agree. I started with too small trailer. Made a lot of extra trips. Or loaded it all, hanging off the back and overloaded. Then I finally took the plunge and bought a bigger trailer. What a relief.

But I had the advantage of already having a heavy duty truck.

It is part of the plan... I just ended up buying a bigger tractor than I originally thought and bigger = bigger everything.

For now I'm driving the tractor and I'm not going too far, or I'm going to borrow a truck and trailer from a buddy for those rare occasions I need it.

My wife will explode if I go out and buy a new truck too soon now...

And I'm not Brad Paisley "I'm gonna miss her, when I get home...":D

when i was shopping for a trailer i wanted an 10K 18' with 2' dove or a 20' flat....

i found a 10K 20' flat first.

if i load backward, i can compleatly fit my TC33D with FEL and 5' brushog on the trailer and have the right tongue weight.

if i load forward, in order to achieve the right weight balance the hog sticks off the back about a foot, with the tail wheel about 2' behind that.

for your tractor which is a class 1 cut vs my class 2 a 20' would be min.

for something your tractor size id consider a PB 20' deckover with 3' dove.

Do you know if the 1500HD's were all crew cabs like the one in the picture?
Or did they also come in other cab styles? What about the Ford 7700 GVW you mentioned, are they only 4 door also?

Are Ford and GM still making these, or just Ford?

I've only seen the F250 light duty in the half ton body style in a regular cab and extended cab (quad cab)

I've only seen the 1500HD in crew cab models, but it's possible they offered it in other cab configurations.

Chevy / GMC trucks come in regular, extended, and 4door / crew cab models.
