How big of a Trailer will I need?

I just looked at Fords site and they come in Reg, Super, and Crew cabs. They have even made them tougher for 2011 then the old ones now with 8,200# GVWR over the 7,700# GVWR they were in 2010 and before.

That is one tough truck. The top of the line 1/2 half Ford has a max payload of 3,060# and a tow rating of 11,300# Ford sure knows how to build them.:thumbsup: Way more payload than most 3/4 ton gas trucks.

The new 2011 F-150 is a serious truck. I would LOVE to have one.

My neighbor just bought a 4x4, 4 door with the EcoBoost V6 (twin turbo) 355 hp and he gets 16-17 MPG around TOWN over 20 on the HWY!

I just bought the wife a 2011 Ford Flex with the same motor, and it is fast and she is getting well over 19 around town (it is AWD and very nice too).

But I still might NEED an F-250...

My dad has a 2011 Super Crew 4x4 Eco Boost and has been averaging 18mpg since he got it in May. Very nice truck

As for the F-250 skip it. I made the 3/4 ton truck mistake twice and learned. F-350 Single Rear Wheel (SRW) is way more truck for basically the same money. $600 more than a F-250 when ordering new.

for your tractor which is a class 1 cut vs my class 2 a 20' would be min.

for something your tractor size id consider a PB 20' deckover with 3' dove.

2 questions.

1 - What is a "dove" in trailerese? (I know what a GN is).

2 -Splain Class 1 vs. class 2 CUT? Not sure I follow you there...

Thanks in advance,
David

Dove tail or beaver tail is simply a angled back portion. Usually 2 to 4 feet. I personally do not like them. I had one but really prefer the all flat deck trailer I have now. They make them both ways so all of us can get what we want.:D

dove = dovetail... that section in the rear that slants down \. (see the pic)

class 1 vs class 2 vs class 3 = frame size of the tractor.

i may have had the classes backward as the BX series kubota are considered class 0. so mine is class 2 and yours is class 3... the largest frame size still considered a CUT.

In terms of NH products (the ones i know the best) a TZ product was class 0 (sames as BX series for kubota)

then there are the class 1 TC series (tc18)

class 2 TC33

class 3 TC40

It can be difficult to compare yours vs mine in terms of features of tractor, but generally can say what frame size aka class it is in terms of "how big is it" ie how much can it potentially weigh, and how large physically is it. (length width etc) what size tires it has etc.

a 5' dove is also common for deck overs. they include both ramps that fold onto the dove so that it forms a flat deck and others that have a hydrualic rear dove that change angle from dove to flat deck and lock into place. (for those that want both)

This picture looks to me (the novice) like the tail might drag pulling out of gas stations or similar situations. is that true?

I'll skip trailers with hydraulics I think. I will have enough stuff that leaks without adding that to the list. :)

schmism,

This is a most excellent post. Posts like this are why TBN is so valuable because it explains and teaches so much.

THANK YOU!
