3-Point Hitch How big of an auger can a Mahindra 1538 L handle

I bought a county line 3.0 auger attachment for my Mahindra 1538 l and was wondering how big of a auger can I use with this tractor. Any help is appreciated

I have a 2638 and have been using both a 6" and 12" auger without any issues. I used the same setup with a smaller 20HP Yanmar again without issues. We have very rocky soil here so need to be careful and feather the rate the auger digs down so it doesn't "screw" into the soil if it catches a rock. We use a hand post hole digger to clear loose soil. We've dug a lot of holes putting in a vineyard.

It will be very dependent upon your local soil type. At a minimum, I would imagine a 9" auger would be no problem, likely a 12" would be fine in most soil types. The bigger tree planting sizes are out of my realm of experience.

I have used my Land Pride PD35 on my Mahindra 3215 (25hp @ PTO) without issues. Have in mind that this PHD has a lower gear ratio than most PHD. Anything from a 6" hole up to a 24" tree hole. A std 18" auger has no issues. I do have to run it above an idle though for anything over 12".

This only gets used at an idle on my larger tractor with 65 PTO hp.
