thanks everyone . I saw the drawbar at TS I just wasn't sure what I would use it for. I'm concerned about making a turn and having the roller hit the rear tire. I guess I'll just have to try it and see what clearance if any I have.

Bought one of those rollers and it leaked like a sieve within a year.

Be sure to keep your receipt.

Found a rental shop that has one for 20 dollars a day. I think I'll rent it. The TS draw bar seems to connect into the arms of the cat 1 3point hitch. At the end of the day will that accomplish the same think as the one Xfaxman has in his picture ?
Can you backup with one of these attached ?

Not a huge issue for the lawn roller, but 3pt trailer hitches can be dangerous. A 3pt has no down force, so in some circumstances, such as braking and/or going downhill, the trailer can push the 3pt hitch up. That can upset the center of gravity & cause a rollover, broken hitch or other issues. So using the drawbar is a safer option.

Personally I use a 3pt trailer mover a fair bit. However I'm aware of the risks & go slow on flatish ground.

No doubt the tractor's drawbar is the safer method, but using a 3PH draw bar is safe too, if you use a safety chain between a lower link and the tractor's frame. Some tractors have steel loops welded to accommodate rigging the chain. This chain limits the upward movement of the lower links.

As far as the roller (and anything you pull with the draw bar), you do need to watch clearances when you turn. It is possible to back up when necessary. If you're using the 3PH draw bar, you will need that safety chain I described above and, again, watch clearance between you rear wheels and the tow.

I use one of these:

This type is pretty versatile and not too expensive.

How does the tractor draw bar (not the 3pt hitch draw bar) attach to the tractor ? Is there a generic tractor draw bar that will fit a 3320 that I can purchase from TS or would this be something I would have to purchase from a JD Dealer ?

On some tractors you can pull the pin mounting the drawbar & slide the bar in for storage. It can't hurt to look. My their nature they have to be mounted below the axle. Below the axle they add to traction. If they were above the axle, you got good traction & your trailer got hung up, the tractor could drive out from under the trailer tongue & flip backwards.

How does the tractor draw bar (not the 3pt hitch draw bar) attach to the tractor ?

It attaches to a bracket under the belly of the tractor, in front of the rear axle. Generally with some sort of pin so it can swivel a bit from side to side, and to allow easy removal. By mounting there, the harder you pull on a load the more force is applied to keep the front wheels down and resist the torque of the rear wheels.

The bracket is generally attached to the bottom of the tractor with bolts into the housing of the tractor. I'm not familiar with the 3320 but I'd think a tractor of that size should have provision for a drawbar. if the bracket isn't there you would need to get one, assuming there is a provision for mounting it, such as threaded holes, on that model.

After some searching, it looks like this is the drawbar and mounting brackets for the 3320: John Deere - Parts Catalog

One should have come with the tractor...look directly below your PTO stub shaft. It might be in the storage position (all the way in).

Go back to my previous post and open the picture. Look for the PTO stub shaft then directly below. That steel bar sticking out 8-10 inches is the draw bar. Your 3320 should have the same bar at the same location.
The only reason I can think off that you wouldn't have one on your tractor is if you bought the machine with a back hoe installed. Even then, you should have got the bar...I'll wager the draw bar bracket is bolted on.

Thanks everyone for your advice.
Interesting..... "If I'm not careful, I learn something new each day...." I purchased the tractor used 5 years ago with no regrets. The thing is a tank.... I found the drawbar receiver on the tractor but there is no drawbar there..... I have an MIA drawbar. I guess its time to buy another replacement part.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say "There's no way in he11 you can back up with one of those attached." "Well, not more than about 6 ft."
I'm joking. With lots of practice you could.

I think he can...never used a yard roller, but it wouldn't be that much different the a trailer.
I think hooking it to a draw bar might be a bit of a hassle though...mostly because of how it hooks up. The clevis might be too low for the tractor's draw bar.
The roller looks like it's designed for a lawn tractor. But, where there's a will, there's a way...
