How do I move this FAST? Lost land lease to developers

This talk of biscuits and honey are making my bowl of yogurt taste like chalk. It does anyways but now I'm really noticing it.

I would brace it as others suggested, put it on skids, and drag it to the new site. Or do as MossRoad suggested and contact somebody who does it for a living, and has the proper insurance.

Good luck.

I used to have 5 of these 10x20 single sided loafing sheds that my ex husband built 10 years ago. 3 of them were taken out by a tornado in 2019 (which is when I found out that he didn’t add them to our insurance either).

The 35 acres I leased directly behind my property for the last 11 years was bought by developers. (Yes... I’m devastated.) I’m short on funds but I need to move this ASAP in order to keep it.

The 4 posts are set in concrete so it doesn’t have skids to just pull with a tractor. I need to move it 1000’. What’s the best way to do this? Cut off just above the concrete? Hire a welder to weld on skids? Can I bolt on some temporary wood skids or something and brace with cables? I have lots of scrap metal and wood...

That building will fold up like an accordion if you cut the bottom of the legs. It's a wonder it hasn't already blown over in a stiff wind, with no bracing. Safest would be to take it apart and reassemble, but you might see if you can rent equipment from a local house mover. Add permanent knee braces on the rear before you try to move it.

Unless I'm seeing it wrong the entire thing is welded together. If I"m mistaken then you are right; the best thing is to take it apart.
It would be interesting to get some feedback from the OP.

Given that the photo shows a welding cart next to it, I am inclined to agree.

I would be inclined to weld on some braces and then move it in one piece. Cut the braces off and do the second one. I would even be tempted to pressure wash the the cement footings attached to the posts and lift / jack those out at the same time.

@piaffepony Good luck.

All the best,

Peter

Have you considered asking the developers to move them for you?

I presume the structures are in the way of their future development? So they would be motivated to do so, possibly? Since they are personal property owned by you, and if you did not move them on your own, they would be leery of disposing of them as it might make them liable for their value. They don't need such problems-- they have development to focus on.

Did your lease have language about the right to add structures, or requirements or timeframes requiring their removal at lease end? If there was no removal clause, that might benefit you.

I wouldn't advise saying anything that was untrue, but if you communicated it would take you 6 months to get them moved-- they might decide it would be easier if they moved them for you. :D

The fastest and probably safest way to move it/them would be a crane. Hook the four corners, lift, swing. If they set up in the right spot, they just might be able to do the 1,000' in one swing.

Certainly not the least expensive option though.
Would love to see that….

You can weld wheeled braces on, roll it and cut the welds off.

I would cut it loose and weld metal braces on the ends and across the front at the bottom. Put some short metal pointing up 45 degrees at one end for ski tips so it wont dig in to the ground. Weld some anchor clips at the top and bottom of the 4 corner posts and use ratchet straps to make X braces on the ends and front. Drag it slow with a tractor. Leave the lower braces when you get where you want it, the animals will step over them.

If you want to secure it in the ground, dig holes at the corners and weld some metal posts on the corners sticking down to pour concrete around. Just make sure to cap the tops of the post to prevent water from entering. You can then cut off the ski tips.

I think I would simply cut the uprights off at ground level, add several braces, tip it over backwards on to a couple of skids and drag to new location. Should be simple.
