How do you dispose of your old hydraulic oil

I store all of my waste oil in a 35 gallon drum, when I prepare my disc and drag for Winter I fill a deck sprayer with the oil and coat my equipment with the oil. Helps preserve what hasn't already rusted away.
If I fill the 35 gallon drum, the rest goes in a 55 gallon drum. So far the 55 gallon drum is less than 1/4 full.

In Ontario under the "take it back" program I pay three cents a litre to drop it off at the local garage. Hydraulic oil on the other hand I believe is mineral oil based not petroleum. I have used mineral oil to rust proof car doors. It does not smell bad like petroleum based products. Although you could do a fleet of vehicles with the hydraulic oil from one tractor.
If you want to burn waste oil cleanly I recommend checking out burner plans available online such as these.

County hazardous waste dump. Works well. No fee (other than taxes :D )

Old hydraulic oil makes great chainsaw bar oil. Some saws, like my Dolmar, pump a lot of oil onto the chain. Regular bar oil turns the saw into a gooey mess. Used hydraulic oil keeps it much cleaner.

Used hydraulic oil doesn't have near the contaminants of used crankcase oil...no combustion byproducts. So it's unlikely to cause pump problems. Of course, 10 gallons of bar/hydraulic oil would probably last me at least 5 years.

I'm like you Bob, use mine as chainsaw bar oil. I will add about half a can of STP oil treatment when I pour it up in my gallon jug. Makes it a little more sticky.

Eventually I would like to either find a proper waste burner or make one up myself to use as supplemental heat in the new polebarn.

I figure its a free heat source for the polebarn why not use it.

this is the one im going to build.

Stupid question maybe... but is it fair to say that so-called "Fire Resistant Hydraulic Fluids" will not burn in such a device???

Are there other good alternative uses for used "Fire Resistant Hydraulic Fluids"???

I use it to start my burn piles. Just pour it out over the logs and let them burn.

Randy I currently have 10 gallons of used but otherwise clean hydraulic oil sitting here if you want it. It would be free fuel if you're thinking about a waste oil furnace. Otherwise it will end up in a log splitter.
