Wow- $20? Even if you had to spend hours cleaning and painting, what a useful purchase!

Yeah the pump didn't have a hose or nozzle so I did have to buy those so I have about 50 or so in the setup.

We use a 55 gallon drum with a fuel pump. It has worked great for the last 6 or so years. I used to fill 2 at once, but now use only one and fill in the fall with winter grade and spring with regular diesel.

I use a 5 gallon diesel jug that I swapped out the dumb push-to-fill nozzle with a foot and a half long EZ-Flow extension nozzle and drilled a hole in the can to add the flip-top vent included with the nozzle kit. My tractor only has a 7.5 gallon tank and uses less than a gallon an hour even when pushed hard. I fill the can with red diesel I buy from the pump at a local gas station about 8 miles away for about 20-25 cents/gallon less than road diesel. It's a really simple and cheap setup that works well.

So far I've driven into town, turned into the station, dropped my loader, shut off, got out, popped my gas cap off and filled up at the pump with off-road diesel.

But before that I did try one of those new-fangled gas cans. I poured in 5 gallons at the pump and when I got it home, spent ten minutes pouring in three of the five gallons.

Life is too short for that.

Putting in a vent like I described above makes all of the difference in the world, even if you still use the push-to-leak nozzle on the new cans. Not putting a vent in a vessel designed to pour through a spout is so idiotic that only the government could have mandated it.
