I tried two hard boiled eggs using the blow removal method, maybe I needed the air compressor. I could not do it, sorry.

Honestly, I was joking about the hammer.... but I just assumed everyone cooked hard boiled eggs the same way.... in hot boiling water for 15 minutes then immediately put the hot boiling pan of water into the sink and turned on the cold tap for 10 minutes to cool them down immediately to stop the cooking. If you don't keep the cold water running, the eggs will heat up the cold water. Learned it from my mom. Eggs always peel easily and less mess but less fun than the hammer method. :licking:

I learned some things. I like the idea of bringing it to a boil and turning off the heat and letting them cook for about 15-20 minutes in the hot water. I did put the eggs in water and then dumped ice in it. they peeled pretty easy but next time I think it will be ice water from the start. As Egon mentioned, I probably over cooked them and they just could not deform enough to be blown out of the shell.

We don't turn off the heat. We leave it at a low boil for 15 minutes. Enough to produce bubbles off the bottom of the pan but not enough for a rolling boil. Put a rack in the bottom of the sink to rest the pan on so the overflowing cold water will have a path to the drain. Take the pan directly from the stove to the rack in the sink and blast the cold water into the pan until the hot water has been displaced. Then you can turn the cold water to a trickle to maintain it cold. Run it until you can feel the eggs are cold, then put them in the fridge. Tap, tap, tap on the counter or table and the shells will peel right off. :licking:

Sure I would see someone post this method as it works quite well.

Use an inverted teaspoon and insert between the egg and shell. Comes free almost every time.

Was at our son's yesterday and saw our daughter in-law trying to peel a large number of eggs. It wasn't a pretty sight. Told her to use teaspoon and the remainder, > that a doz, peeled without a hitch.

I made 2 dozen deviled eggs for use yesterday. I bought the eggs 10 days before Friday. On Friday I put one dozen at a time into a large pot, covered with just cold tap water, put them on the stove on high heat until the water just started to boil, turned the heat down a bit but still a good vigorous boiling, then set the timer for 10 minutes. When the timer cut off, I took the pot to the sink, and rain cold tap water on them a minute or two, then put a couple of scoops of ice from the icemaker into the water. When they were thoroughly cooled, I dried them with a towel and put them back in the refrigerator. The next day, Saturday, I broke up the shells by tapping them on the sink, peeled them pretty cleanly and easily under running tap water, and made the deviled eggs.

I've seen the recommendation on the Internet to bring the water to a boil, then turn off the heat and let them continue cooking, but I've never tried it. All my life (and that's a lot of years:laughing:) we boiled hard boiled eggs for 10 minutes and soft boiled eggs for 5 minutes.

I just talked to my mother in law today. She brought over some leftover eggs from yesterday about an hour after I posted that picture of the easy peeling egg. She read about the method where you turn off the heat so she tried it. My daughter tried to peel one and had a heck of a time with it. Mother in law said she had never seen egg shells stick like that and will go back to the 15 minutes followed by cold water method she always used before.

I do believe in trying new things now and then, but sometimes we're better off just staying with what we know.
