It looks like you have a float gauge toward the back, which one did you get, and where?

Rolando, the float gauge came with the tank.

I think you made the right decision though. You can watch diesel prices and buy when they are down. I checked a couple of weeks ago and diesel was $4.25 and now it is $4.03. If you are having it delivered, you might want to call the company and check on prices when you know your going to need some. The delivery company for me only delivers in my area 1 day a week, but they will allow me to lock in the price earlier in the week. Why do you need to add both of those products to the fuel and what is the ratio of product to fuel they recommended?

Again though, very nice set up. Diesel generator back up would be nice. It is also nice that you have a spot under roof to store your tank. Everything will stay in nicer condition that way and reduce risk of water in tank when fueling on a day with rain.

For the people who are buying onroad fuel, how much, is any, are you saving by buying in bulk?

One of our long term goals has been to have a tank at home for the truck and tractor. And maybe for the wife's vehicle if we get a diesel. Kinda hard at the moment, filled up the truck today at 4.76 a gallon. 87 octane gas was 81 cents cheaper.

The Wall Street Journal had an article yesterday and said prices on SUVs are down about $3,000 compared to prices in 2007. We have long wanted a 2002 diesel Excursion but could not afford it. We are selling a car and long story short a potential buyer is willing to trade his 2002 X for our two cars.:D The X really got raked over by the GreenWeinees and the MediaMorons. A diesel X gets pretty good milage, 21-22 at rural road speeds. Our Volvo gets that but its not vilified by the press. The truck today managed 21mpg.

Anywho, so given how hard the gas station is making me work to pay them for the fuel, buying a tank for onroad fule stored at home has moved up on the priority list.

As near as I can tell, off road is about 50 to 70 cents less expensive. Really don't know about on road.

Ok, very nice! But, I just gotta ask, how much? Is the tank single wall or double, and what type of pump is that?

Here's a pic showing the pump.

Keving,
Did that tank come with a drain plug? And if so what size is it. I was looking at the information at Northern Tool, but they don't mention a drain plug.

It came with a 1" drain hole, no plug.

dmccarty asked,

BTW, I hear dmccarty is a great guy. :D:D:D

We have been talking about having a tank of diesel at home for years and I think now we are going to do it. Looks like we can get a tank for free but will have to pay $400-500 for the pump and related equipment.

A supplier said ONROAD would be $4.64 per gallon. Were I used to buy fuel it was 4.76 yesterday. The station I bought fuel from yesterday was 4.69.

So to answer my question, it looks like we can save 5-12 cents per gallon. The supplier said he would deliver for free if the purchase was 100 gallons or more. Less than that was pretty cheap, $20-30 I think.

We are doing this to have the fuel at home and convenience. It will take 10+ years to recoup the cost of the pump from the bulk buy of the fuel.:D

My kids are SPOILED. When I worked on a farm we had to pump gas and diesel for the truck and tractors. None of this electric power pump nonsense. We had a pump in each tank and I was the cheaply paid motor running the pump. :D:D:D
