How do you store your diesel?

1*Right now, I use a 29 gallon Tempo Gas Walker with a hand pump to buy the diesel and transport it back to my place. I've attached images of it.

2* it's a pain to load the tank unto a trailer and strap it down down for transporting to re-fuel.
I have a trailer with 3 ft high metal sides, so I just strap it down and transport it in a vertical position so that I don't have to remove the hand pump.

*Here's a photo Tuthill Pump

*Here is the Pump I got from Northern tool it's reg $99.99 also but I got it on sale for 69.99.
Plumb either pump with the fittings shown on my pump and get a 55 gallon drum and you won't have to bother with taking the gas walker to get it filled.

Mount the pump to a shelf or stand not the walker as shown here.Click Here

1* Don't take the walker anywhere to get it filled /leave it set connected to the set up like i do with this white drum.
2*Forget all this hassle with the walker leave it at home on the set up and take the 55 gallon drum to the fuel place and put 29 gallons of fuel in it.
when you get home stick the extra suction hose on the pump into the 55 gallon drum and the fill nozzle in the fill hole of the walker and pump the fuel out of the 55 gallon drum into the walker then set the empty drum off the trailer and yer all done with no muss no fuss.

I could do that but the tank is at the house end of the garage so the hose would have to be about 20 feet long. I actually use so little fuel that using the 5 gal container isn't a big deal. Not ideal but STILL a lot better than running to the gas station all the time.

I've got three of those Northern pumps now. One was for my barrel set up (their kit) and the other two are from my on road fuel tanks. I didn't want to make the pump movable, so they are plumbed perm. (but I think I mentioned that back earlier....)

I'm making a new portable 'tractor' diesel (died), when time allows. I have two old aluminum semi truck fuel tanks- each about 100 gal. I have their frame straps, so I'll bolt those straps together on mount so I can pick up the assembly w/ a tractor- bascially an upside down "T". Both tank will be plumbed together to the pump, but each tank will have a shut off. Gravity feed will allow all the fuel to be pumped. Hoping two tanks side by side won't be too wide (I'll see).

Here's my new setup! 288.7 gallons stored at $4.54 per gallon plus biocide and Pri-D. Nobody ever said it was cheap....

Thanks for everybody's input on diesel storage. I really appreciate your input!!! THANK YOU!

You need to put a sticker on it that says, "Protected by Smith & Wesson!" Nice setup.

Nice tank. Is the pump 12 or 120 volts. The reason I as is I had a 120 volt unit and after a few power outages I changed it to a gravity system by building a stand.

120V with generator backup, if needed. Sure beats using those PITA 5 gal diesel cans. I put approx. 20 gallons in the 'bota in less than 2 minutes. The old way would have been at least 10 minutes.

Ok, very nice! But, I just gotta ask, how much? Is the tank single wall or double, and what type of pump is that?

It looks like you have a float gauge toward the back, which one did you get, and where?

Everything came from Northern Tool. The tank was about $700 incuding delivery (single wall). The pump is 13gpm 120v from Northern Tool, not sure of the brand of the brand at the moment because I'm traveling. The pump and digital flow meter and various plumbing came to about $400. So, I know have a little over $2500 tied up in diesel supply. Tough way to start, but I feel better having it done...
