That is why we have laws protecting children from sexual predation, right?

That is why we have laws protecting old folks from financial predation, right?

That is why we're enforcing old laws and enacting new laws to protect the investor, right?

It goes back to right and wrong involving a victim and a predator. If there's a victim and there's a predator. Then chances are most likely there's someone commiting a wrong.

I would not get sucked/goaded into defending 2,000 years of Christian faith in God to a disbeliever who takes pleasure in substituing clever comebacks for excuses to disregard and belittle the "absolutes" of faith. There is good and evil loose in the universe and in each of us and one is able to exercise their inherent free will to choose to believe or not to and to associate with corrupting influences or not to. Knowledge will set your mind free but only God can save your soul and grant eternal life and I believe that is an absolute. J

Since you replied to me then let me say that I understand your position completely. And I do take pleasure in discussing faith. I am a believer after all.

As for them being clever comebacks, well, I see them as points of light. As for disregard and disrespect for absolutes, no one has been able to show me one, here, or anywhere else. And humor is evidence of disrespect I guess from some perspectives.

There is good and evil loose in the universe and in each of us

You say that and refuse to give me an example of good or evil. That is interesting, very interesting.

one is able to exercise their inherent free will to choose to believe or not to and to associate with corrupting influences or not to.

Choice now that would make a great thread. Do we really have a choice or are our reactions just that. Do we really have free will?

Knowledge will set your mind free but only God can save your soul and grant eternal life and I believe that is an absolute.

I assume you mean the Christian God as an absolute. Maybe you could come up with some points to explain your position, maybe not.

The good thing about this is my "clever comebacks" have made you think. I know this. I know you have been trying to come up with a "clever comeback" of your own. You have probably been talking with others about this discussion and that is good too.

Rational thought has been a knot in the skirt of holy robes since time began. So I guess you and me are continuing a family tradition (family of man).

You seemed to have ignored the discussion of gravity being absolute, your suggestion that aircraft disproves this absolute was addressed in an earlier post. Here

TresCrows, as always, concise, accurate and to the point. You summed up my feeble attempts quite well.

That, in a nutshell, sums up my feelings about religion. Well said!

Such a funny man. Examples of good and evil? Christian God etc etc--hmmmmmmmmm, what did I say, I will not be sucked into an argument of this nature. Made me think? hardly that cleaver, this is an old and weathered, threadbare arguments that have been put forth on both sides of the fence so hardly anything new to think about. I will not dance with the "devil" nor argue with him nor give evil any countenance, the heart is either open to Gods truth or it is closed and I believe a closed heart is an evil thing, the abscence of God. Oh, by the way, God is not a democracy, he may not particularly care what one thinks. One thing, I believe it is true, that God continues to give those with an open heart "chances" even beyond this life to know him. I would be careful about being so dismissive.
Like the thread wherein people were baiting animals with meat on hooks I will gracefully bow out of posting any further on this one if at all possible. Y'all have a good day. Bye now. J

"Rational thought has been a knot in the skirt of holy robes since time began"

Right. It's what got me kicked out of Catechism class to kneel on the floor in the hall with my nose against the wall. The Nuns hated the question "Why?".

A perfect pictorial of the problem at hand: Man, elevated.

Well, on the plus side...this thread remained civil for a good, long time.
