I don't have a clue regarding the difference between retail and oem versions.

OEM is software is the same cd as the retail version. Except no fancy retail packaging and usually no books/manuals are included. They are meant for computer manufacturers to be included with a new computer. However, their license with Microsoft says that it can be sold with a complete computer system OR a significant piece of hardware. The OEM guys have taken that to mean they can sell you a mouse or keyboard and astisfy their license aggreement.
The OEM usually comes in a white sleeve with the key code and sticker on it.

Sounds like you did what was right for you and in the big picture thats what counts /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've been keeping an ole WIN98se PIII emachine going with upgrades when needed for a quite a few yrs now and it does what I need. I run some old DOS programs on it as well as some others that won't run on anything higher than WIN98se and for those reasons I keep it going. Gameing isn't my main concern either.
Funny, when my Dell laptop w/XP Pro acts up or when the daughter is home we all find the ole reliable 98 machine handy.
I'd consider upgradeing to XP if I knew that my old 16bit programs would run but from what I've heard they won't. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
