If it weren't so darn aggravating... yah'd almost have ta laugh at the craziness of it!
Drove to Anchorage yesterday morning and diesel was $2.59.9 here in Soldotna. Anchorage (Prime #1) was $2.43.9. Refineries are located near Soldotna and Fairbanks, AK. Pipeline and railcar to Anchorage for fuel transport (most of it , anyway).
Finished my meetings and was heading south last night and drove by the station in Bird Creek and fuel had jumped to $2.54.9!?!
Anybody here guess that they drained their 10K-15K storage tanks and had to top off with the more expensive fuel during the 9 hours I was in town?
Some major gouging going on?!? And the major oil producers are taking out daily, 3/4 or full page ads in all the newpapers with dire warnings about any tax increases that might/might not come out of the legislature up here.
Something to the effect --- if you tax us more, we can't make any investments and therefore we won't be able to pump any more oil... have to leave the oil in the ground!
Yup, no business will ever come around and pump that oil from the ground cause they won't be able to make $3.0 BILLION a month in profit! (Exxon-Mobil) Don't know what BP made last year?
Hard to envision how the national and regional economies can continue to weather those blows to the kidneys and keep from falling through the ropes and landing in a heap on the floor of the arena.....
