How important is spelling and punctuation to you?

I remember one post that had a misspelled word in the Title. The first sentence in the post was apologizing for typo and stating the correct word, instead of correcting typo.

I've caught myself doing that. I couldn't change the title after posting and had to request that a moderator make the correction.

Doesn't really matter to me what one types. I understand, because mine isn't even close to correct. I don't really care if my, or anyone else's grammar, punctuation isn't the best. I can deal with it :D

The Title can be changed in the Advanced mode.

Look at my previous Post, #59, and this one.

Correct, you can change the title to your thread (and edit your posts) for 24 hours from the time you hit "post"
After that, a Moderator or one of the TBN staff has to do it.

I am considered bilingual, that is french/english bilingual.
Spoken, no problem, but written is where my shortcomings show up.
Many words simply flip a few letters and others simply have a different ending.

It really irks me when a self appointed languish policeman corrects a minor goof.
Such folks seem really **** retentive IMHO.

My 2 cents.

I agree,, While mine aren't usually minor goofs. I'm no child, that needs to have their grammar punctuation corrected. That is what schools are for.. If I haven't learned it in 57 yrs ,I'm not likely to learn it now..I guess it's just not important to me.Besides, I'm from the south, we have our own lingo

As I attempted to explain in my opening of this thread it's not the simple misspellings. But if it is ok for you to misspell the word why take offense when I quote your misspelling? I used to use the latin in sic
Sic is a Latin term meaning 鍍hus. It is used to indicate that something incorrectly written is intentionally being left as it was in the original. Sic is usually italicized and always surrounded by brackets to indicate that it was not part of the original. Place [sic] right after the error
to indicate the original posters misspelling but often that was not understood.

And that's an attitude we see so often - if you have not learned it in X years, your not going to learn it now. That's really too bad you can't or don't want to learn new things. Technology advances and leaves people behind.

And "your own lingo"? Is that taught in school? I face that a lot. SWMBO (she who must be obeyed, my wife) is from Jackson, Mississippi. There are some words she uses infrequently and she mispronounces them such that it leads me to wonder what she said. Thankfully it is now easy to call up an online pronunciation guide to let her hear the generally acceptable pronunciation. But I'm glad she is still young enough (she's only 67) to learn.

But that's why I started this thread - to see how important spelling and punctuation is to the TBN'ers who respond.

On some of the forums I visit the average poster seems to type all posts on a cell phone with one hand while driving, other forums are "professional" seems like all posts were written by English language professors.

I am German, and English is not my language. I excused myself allready in my intruduction. I make a lot of mistakes when I am typing. When I type German, my conputer corrects me, and this is good so, because most Germans are very fussy about spelling. Maybe I could change it to english, but than it would not work for German any more. So you have to live with my mistakes. I saw in an other forum from somebody: If you find spelling mistekes, you may keep then!

For those who are foreign I cut some extra slack.
Q - "What do you call someone who only speaks one language?"
A - "American"
