How is Bird doing?

Just thought I'd post an update to this thread. I had the triple bypass surgery on 2/4/2016, got out of the hospital on 2/10/2016. I've had both good and bad days; had trouble sleeping for awhile, but overall, I reckon I've done at least as well as could be expected. I saw the cardiologist on 2/25/2016 and he modified a couple of my prescriptions (I've never taken so many pills in my life). And he made me an appointment for 5/25/2016 (yep, said he wouldn't need to see me again for 3 months). So today (3/1/2016) I saw the surgeon and his P.A. (physician's assistant). I went with a list of 10 questions and the P.A. answered all of them to my satisfaction. The important one was why the pain in one spot in my chest when the other pains are gone now. When I told her I still had pain just in one spot, she just put her finger right on it and said, "Right here?" Anyway, she explained what they did right there and why it's going to take some time to heal.

So they gave me the standard instructions to get plenty of exercise and eat right. They said I can drive now, but can't mow the yard and do such chores as that until 4/1/2016 (8 weeks after the surgery). And unless something unusual comes up, I won't be seeing them again.

Thanks for the update Bird. Right diet is more important than exercise but exercise makes you feel better - but take it slowly and look for improvement over weeks not days. The right diet can make you feel depraved - that is where the right recipes can improve the mental outlook on the new restrictions.

Glad you're doing well. Listen to Txdon, follow the diet and exercise thing and you will do just fine.

Good stuff, Bird.

One other thing to watch out for is your recovery from the anaesthetic. That takes months as you'll tend to 'zone out' for no reason; you'll think you've done or read something for just a moment when, in fact, 15-20 minutes has gone by.

It's the big reason why driving/operating equipment is restricted for so long.
