How many acres was an 8N designed to farm, when new?

I bought my '52 8N from the original purchaser. He still had his owner's manual, sales receipt and customer survey (attached here). With the 8N, I got his Dearborn 2-14 Economy plow, Dearborn cultivator, and Love Tractor disc harrow. You will see from the survey that he farmed 70-99 acres with it. It replaced his mules. Can you imagine how hard that was? Mr. Bangs worked this 8N hard, but loved it and took great care of it. He started getting emotional as I loaded it on my trailer and I offered to back out of the deal, but he would not hear of it as long as I promised to take good care of her. I've had her for about 30 years now. I've also attached the sales invoice that shows the original price of the 8N and implements.
That's incredible. If you ever decide to sell, please consider a collector who will preserve it and value the heritage of the machine and the documents you've preserved. It's a piece of American farming history.

With all its use back in the day, I would Not recommend an 8N to anyone for actual use today. Not when MF 135s, Ford 2000s, ect exist, at nearly the same price; and are miles ahead in usefulness
I'm not a fan of those 8n's either. They used to bring pretty good money though. Nowadays I seem them pretty regularly in the $800-$1500 range.

I've never really seen a good deal like that on a 2000.
Around here those seem to be around 3-5k on average in decent shape. Might be a regional thing?

For sure a 2000 is a much superior and useful tractor. A neighbor a few miles down the road has a really cherry 2600....I'm just told every time I ask that it's not for sale...

Yeah, your not entirely wrong, but what it see, running and operating; 8Ns are around $2500; running and operating MF 135s start around $3500. Yeah, $1,000 different, but atleast 3x the capability. Ford 2000s, I just did a FB search, and found 7 within 50 miles; from $1500-4000, including one with a cab for $3500. Massey, I found 9 in a 250 mile radius, ranging from $2500 to $5000 (with loader).

Sounds like the market is a bit different in Florida.

I actually had to look through 3 pages on local FB to find a couple 8n's 2500 and over. In that case they were fully restored.

When you need a cheap 8n, come shop in Ohio and when I'll need a cheap 2000 I'll go for a Florida vacation!
