I have had my CHCP for about a year now. I paid the fee for a permit to excercise my 2nd amendment right. Considering getting a FOSP next, (freedom of speech permit), so I can open my mouth in public legally.

FOSP Isn't that the truth....Please let me know where we apply for the FOSP -Wouldn't it be great to speak freely again and only have to worry about a punch in the mouth..:confused3:

I don't know about now, but I used to be able to draw and fire 2 rounds in the A zone in 1.75 seconds all day on demand.. I have seen guys that could do that it half the time. But I never was all that speedy. As I remember it, my best "el presidente" where you turn, draw and fire on 3 targets 2 rounds each at 10 yards was about 7 seconds.. again there are guys out there that can do it in less than 4. maybe faster with compensated guns. I guess John Wayne in the shootist said it best: " It ain't the guy that's the fastest or even the most accurate that wins a gunfight, it is the guy that is the most willing." I wouldn't really know.. I have never ventilated anyone. Or even fired a shot in anger, Came close a time or two.. but that was it.

Our original trainers use to set up some really interesting scenarios for our Tactical Training such as sitting down with a clipboard in one hand and ink pen in the other with "shoot/no shoot" targets. They always varied the scenarios and it was a great learning tool. On one, they taped our sights and had us begin drawing and shooting targets at contact distance and then gradually moved us out to show us we could still hit quickly without sights if absolutely necessary.

All of our shooting was from the holster with thumb strap under a vest or coat and I don't think I ever broke 2.5 if that fast. We were allowed to transition to a Glock and Blade Teck, Fobus etc., but I was never comfortable without a mechanical restraint and used a Serpa; not much real difference in time for me anyway.

Agree completely with the bold text statement; no one was ever killed by a fast noise, one must have the mental ability to engage something other than paper possibly with rounds coming in.

Recently got Permit to Carry here in MN...theoretically no "conceal" required. :)

I remember one stage where we had to drag a dummy around from shooting position to shooting position. just to wear out the competitor, the stupid dummy weighed at least 150 lbs, and was to simulate a wounded comrade you were trying to save. And another where you had bank bags full of money in your hand .. anything to mess you up.:) One of the most telling stages was a rifle stage where you started behind a drop down ramp and was supposed to fire on targets up against the berm and you were supposed to image there were machine guns on top of the berm in pillboxes.. kinda like Normandy June 6 1944.. well when that ramp went down on the "landing craft".. let me tell you, You knew then that you had about 1/2 of a second to survive out in the open with someone in a pillbox on top of the berm with a MG42. you were supposed to shoot the targets on the move of course and get to cover.. but I knew in reality I would be dead, dead, dead. I remember in scoring one competitor, the range officer, said, "Well it looks like you have a lot of misses on this stage",, "yeah, but they were fast misses!".. like you said, making a loud noise and missing does not count.

Me? Give me a non lethal alternative, a seriously powerful taser, and tough luck if your heart gives out buddy
since you are pointing a gun at me.
But so far no one will sell me one, and talk about getting harassed and arrested for
owning one, in all the different jurisdictions, some of whom likely consider chewing gum an offensive weapon.
....

How quickly can you get your weapon out and get an aimed round off? That might be an interesting comparison too.
and I'll be quiet now and let you guys continue. Drew

If the bad guy has a gun pointed at you, and you managed to hit him with a taser, I would suspect you would get shot. A taser makes you clinch up and if the guy has his finger on the trigger, chances are he will fire the weapon without trying. Using a non deadly force weapon in a deadly force encounter is not likely to end well.

I can draw, aim, fire and hit center of mass in 2-3 seconds at my slowest. Doing this a few weeks ago, Thug Target Tim had no heart left after awhile. :D At short distances, aiming through the sights is not required with a bit of practice. Just drawing, firing and hitting the target center of mass, I can get done in 1-2 seconds. Notice the lack of "aim."

There are some great videos on You Tube of deadly force incidents that make great training films. They are very educational, firefights where people are within a yard of each other and MISSING or off duty officers, even when surprised, drawing, firing, and taking out the bad guy who had the upper hand and sometimes outnumbered the officer.

Later,
Dan

Got my permit in Michigan. I got fast-tracked in Tennessee because I already had the Michigan one - basically had to fill out paper and pay $50.

In Oregon you have to take a class with classroom and range practice, then pass a background check. It costs about $165 plus the class costs, so call it $300 for a ccp. It's not cheap, but if you haul a handgun around with you it's a great convenience to be able to just tuck it under your coat or in a pocket.
