Your words are very true, that is the reason for records checks and permits. Not everyone is honest.

Instead of the 2nd Amendment ---- Shift your thoughts to attending the church of your choice, or expressing a political opinion ---- Still think a background check, fingerprinting and paying to exercise your rights is a good idea? One only needs to read a few of the comments in this thread to get an appreciation for how far we have slipped from the courage and wisdom of our founders.

Actually my leanings are fairly conservative. I live a conservative state except for the three counties that dominate the population and hence elections, thus sending a majority of liberals to the US congress. I reluctantly justified the fingerprinting and background checks in this case, as a protection to keep felons and other 'bad' guys from 'freely' carrying concealed. KK, I do understand where you are coming from I think and in general probably side with you often. Registering with the county Sheriff who I believe to be on my side is not a big deal to me (I don't plan to be or act on the wrong side of the law), I could have it all wrong but it hasn't been an issue for me for many years.

Understood. BUT ... what about the NEXT sheriff, or the NEXT governor, or the NEXT president? Once given away, the power of abuse is only one election away and is ultimately unavoidable.

I can't argue that but I wanted a CCW... what were my options? I do vote 'religiously' and speak my mind to those holding public positions. Just not going to fight this particular issue. I see more important ones to get worked up over. I will leave those to another thread

Not necessarily. But, to prevent an injustice ... I might. After all, isn't a jury supposed to be comprised of ones peers? if a jury is seated with a bunch of sheep that will enforce any law the judge says they must - then where is any check/balance for citizens to stop oppression? No - I'm not saying every law necessitates a jury of malcontents to stand up to big brother. I am saying - there is a time and a place for courageous citizens to do their duty and tell the judge and the law to go pound sand.

Yes, jury nullification is nothing new, but lying to get on a jury . . . well, that might not be new either.:laughing: But I wouldn't recommend it.

Texas CHL also requires passing background check by both Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and FBI so not as "automatic" as it sounds.

Yes, and I've been told they have so many applicants that it's taking about 60 days, so I guess I should receive mine by Christmas. But since I can't say I have any great need for it, no big deal to me.

The main reason I would want a CHL is because it seems to add credibility to your side in a incident. As we've seen in ferguson the truth can be covered up and hidden and very slow to come out, especially if the media has a story they want to tell that the facts don't support. HS
