How many miles on your vehicle before sell or trade?

I've got a twin to his Jeep, same red color. Mine has 26K miles. He is always jokingly asking me if he can borrow it to haul mail for a few days....... He'd put more gravel road miles on it in a day than it's had in it's whole life!!!!

Kind of leaves you feeling that you have a LOT of life left in yours! Delivering mail has to be 10X harder miles than what a normal driver puts on.

I am wondering who buys vehicles with 200K or more miles on them. I certainly wouldn't. Lots of folks trade in at 100K and get a good price for the vehicle, 200K likely not so much. So what happens to those 200-300K vehicles when you trade them in?

The last vehicle I sold was a '97 Jeep Cherokee that I bought new. I sold it in 2014 with 380,000 miles to a coworker. He still has it, his wife uses it as a daily driver to take the kids to school. They take it out 4 wheeling a few times a year. He now has over 450,000 miles on it. I did the maintanance like clockwork and some even if it didn't need it. He does the same. I think this is a rare bear... But I take care of my vehicles... There wasen't even a scratch on it when I sold it to him. Think I paid somewhere around 18k when I bought it, sold it for 3500. My current daily driver is a 2012 Jeep JK 4 door. I have 90k on it already. I'll keep this one til about 200k.

Yeah, my Jeep is spoiled. Drive it to Colorado once every couple years. Drive it in parades and shows. Drive it to town and back a few times a year. Sits in a warm shop. I bought it used from my friend with 8K miles on it. I've put 15K on in 9 years.

Been thinking that I may buy a Jeep in the next year or two for a run about vehicle. I have my truck but mostly only use it to tow and the wife and I would enjoy a Wrangler for running around locally. Darn easy to fit about anywhere, great in the snow, and I love how you can modify any thing on them to make it exactly how you want it.
Have to say, after seeing the sticker prices at the dealer, thinking used will be the way to go. Chrysler is darn proud of those little vehicles! LOL

The way I look at it is this. If repairs for a year =or exceed the payments on a new one, then it is time to sell and buy another one. Regardless of mileage or age of the vehicle, this holds true for me. If you know that you are having some issues with a transmission or engine is practically worn out then you can add that in for the year total also rather than wait for them to explode. Then you know if it is time to put your troubles off on a new person. If it is still drivable, you will get some money for it. But if the engine is shot and transmission is bad, you wont get much more than salvage cost for it at that point.

150K or 200 K vehicle is not worth much, some hold up better than others.

150K not bad if been dependable and in good shape if you nee extra car and won't be racking up the miles. +200K repair cost get to you. I run my vehicles to the point that repairs run about 75-80% of a new one. Sometimes to 250K we put a lot of mile on or cars/truck. My 2014 Foresster has 106K. Wife's 2011 Equinox at 155K.

I was in the same boat as you. I finally bought one at auction. A nice one...after looking for a used one for a while I found out they don't make wranglers that are good deals in a lower price range. I ended up with a 2013 Moab Edition with 11,000 miles that was A1 nice with leather and nav. Drove it for a year and made 1 thousand dollars on it. I had never owned a jeep before and I will never have another one. I got car sick on the way home the first time I drove it. I finally got used to that, but it just wan't for me. It was great to be able to park in tight spaces, but other than that I just didn't enjoy how it drove/rode.... I guess I was just so used to driving my big truck and the short wheel base just wasn't for me. Good thing about a jeep is you should not get hurt on it too badly should you decide to sell.

Try pricing a pickup one of these days, a 200k mile 3/4 ton or 1 ton pickup in good shape can still push $15k.

Our vehicles go to the salvage yard when they leave. Right now we have four licensed; Hyundai Accent 191,000, Ford F150 140,000, Hyundai Santa Fe 140,000, and Honda Crosstour 78,000.
