Mtnviewrqnch bet me to it! I think you will want the third remote. You may not use it now, but if your like everyone else here, you will be addicted and before you know it you will be ploughing or haying or doing something with your tractor as an excuse for seat time.

Hi all

and a backhoe would use quite a few.

Mike

Actually, most backhoes have their own set of controls and only use one set of remotes.

Some backhoes have a special connection that drains fluid directly back to the sump and get oil directly from the pump so as to increase flow.

And some have a pto powered pump and don't use the tractor hyds at all.

It is real nice to have a hyd top link. That would take a set of remotes. Tho you can always disconnect & use the remote for a tool that needs it, not a big deal.

Running an implement often takes one set, sometimes takes 2.

The 'top & tilt' some refer to is handy for special jobs, in addition to the hyd top link you replace the crank on one of the vertical 3pt arms with a hyd cylinder and it will tilt your implements up or down on one side. This is handy with a back blade to put a crown in a road, and so forth. The implement is angled compared to the tractor. However, this 'tilt' part is less used, and may not be impoertant to you for your needs. Personally I don't see the value of them for _me_.

So, you'd probably do fine with 2 remotes. Nothing wrong with getting the 3rd one. Sure is nice to have 2 sets at least.

1000 pto - they start kicking in at about 75 hp, turns out a 540 pto shaft 1-3/8 inch in size can only transmit 75-120 hp before it gets overloaded - snaps off. (to get to 120 hp they need to use expensie exotic metals to make them strong enough...) So they came out with the 1000 rpm pto, it hand handle 2x as much power. At 60 hp you might be able to use a few 1000 rpm tools, but should normally be fine with the 540 stuff.

My small square baler uses one remote for the pickup height, the second for the chute tension, and I use the third remote to empty the accumulator.

Clarification; I mean sets of rear remotes
I have two sets, both in use full time. I now wish I'd spec'd a 3rd set when I ordered the 3720. To use my log splitter, I have to disconnect something that's already plugged in. Sorta like having to unplug one appliance from a wall socket to make room for a 3rd one. There's room on the bracket for a 3rd set, I may still have someone add power beyond back there for the splitter.

So in my case, I could have used three sets; two connected to the joystick, one power beyond.

I have three rear remotes on my 60hp tractor and wish I had four. To operate a rear blade hydraulically requires four circuits.

Rather than getting a 1000 rpm pto which isn't very common on small tractors I would see if the economy pto option is available. I have this on my 4520 Deere and it allows full 540 speed at a reduced engine speed, I find it usefull.

I'd say get as many as you can afford, since they cost a lot more to add later (especially if you don't feel competent to do the job yourself).
If you are going to use a box blade, top 'n tilt would be handy (so there's two pairs of outlets); some blades also have hydraulically-adjustable teeth, which would use another set. Then, there's the possibility of a grapple rake or bucket grapple or FEL-mounted hydraulic auger, where another pair of outlets would be needed.

Paul, this is VERY common. A lot of people feel the exact same way. Many of my customers purchase a complete "TnT" kit figuring that they will be using the top link most of the time only to realize that they use the tilt side link waaaaaaaaaaaaay more than they had ever thought that they would.
Having the hydraulic side link allows a person to make minor adjustments that quite frankly are NEVER made when those adjustments have to be made manually. Most of the time I think that you would find that when it comes to grading, the guy with a complete "TnT" set will get the job done faster and better than if he had only one hydraulic link or still had all the OEM manual adjust links. ;)

I agree with Brian, topntilt makes a big difference in achieving quality results with less effort.

As far as the 1000 rpm shaft some attachments that take that are large round and square balers and some heavy batwing mowers along with large grain drills. As far as the third remote, Id get it. Never know when you might need it. All my tractors have atleast three.

When I bought the tractor last year I added 2 set of remotes (that was all the factory option had available) then added hydraulic top link. I am currently in process of aquiring the components and fittings to install another 2 spool valve to have 4 sets.
IMO all tractors should come standard with a hyd top link. Out of the 5 implements I currently have there are no 2 that use the same length adjustment for the top link, let alone the need to adjust on the go with rear blade, rake, or carry-all.
I don't have the the tilt link yet but it is on the soon to aquire list. I agree with Brian, if I had it I would certainly use it. Can't begin to count the times I repositioned the tractor, approached from a different direction to do a job because I didn't want to get off and adjust the 3 pt.
