Tractor Sizing How Much Can A Sub Compact Tractor lift?

And after all I have said-
For that one time I need to haul a 1500lb concrete block I will pay 200 bucks to rent the proper machine. Why would I need to own something bigger than a SCUT for just a one time job? Understandably if you have bigger jobs and you need bigger machines then it is what it is :)

But a SCUT is a full on tractor.....simple as that, and if I want to show its more than capable of doing what the manufacturer recommends-thats up to me not you or anyone else. Im not worried about closing this thread because someone doesn't want to hear the truth.

To be real-no one is claiming the SCUT could ever come close to a D9 dozer-that would be wrong i so many ways. I have driven D9s, CAT excavators, VOLVO excavators, CASE Loaders and although my tractor can fit in the wheel hub of most of these I know its a strong little tractor. I could have bought a CUT but my tractor has more options and is more capable than a CUT. I can use just as many attachments and on top of that, a front snowblower or brush. I can also get really close to my house and NOT tear up my yard. I get 12 hours on a tank and it fits nicely in my garage. I can also haul it anywhere without needing a friggin flatbed trailer or different class license.

I moved 340 yards of gravel, sand, silt, loam and she still looks new. I used it to grade, dig stumps and bulldoze rocks and stumps. I used it to move snow, cultivate gardens haul and lift anything in my yard. For the bigger jobs it may take a little longer but it does it with style, great fuel mileage and begs for more.

Its a full on tractor alright, anyone disputing such knows nothing about tractors and certainly nothing about tractor history. I grew up around tractors so my opinion is based on experience.

My dad has 60 years experience with tractors and owns them all, dozers dump trucks, escalators, farm tractors, loaders. When he saw what I could do with mine-he sold the dozer and got a kioti :)

Just a word choice thing. But as Axle pointed out, words have meanings. I'm sure you meant "versatile" not "capable" in the quote above.

Can you please point out to me where someone said a SCUT is not a tractor? I've read every post in this thread, some multiple times and can't find that anywhere.

Several on hear that say its an over-sized garden tractor. read again.

I'm trying to understand your point of view....

Is it correct that from someone calling a SCUT an "over-sized garden tractor" or "oversized Lawn tractor" you interpreted that to mean they didn't think it was a tractor?

I move 1500 pounds or more all the time. It isn't a once a year job for me. Around here you can't rent a machine capable of lifting 1500 pounds. It is about double that rate plus more if you have to pay them to move it.

What are they then. They have to be an oversized lawn tractor or an undersized cut.

Oh really? Anyone here know the history of tractors? Wasnt that long ago when a 17HP single attachment tractor was considered a full blown tractor. I made the comment because of other comments that argue about claims the tractor can do more than what most believe. If you dont like my comment-dont read it :)

Anyone disputing the capabilities of these SCUTs or disputing that they are not tractors-get over yourselves. facts are the facts.

Actually, the tractors have grown smaller as they have evolved. I have two 35HP tractors. One is from 1952, one from 2013. The older one was a top line farm tractor. The newer far outperforms it in everything except maybe straight pulling power, but is just a small utility tractor, CUT. While the tractors for farming, their original use, have grown humongous, the fact that 35HP can now be put in a much smaller frame has allowed the use of them for landscaping tasks. The modern SCUT is not an upsizing of the garden tractor. Rather, the fact that 25HP can be put in a small frame allows the SCUT to come into being. SCUTs are downsized tractors, not upsized lawn mowers. So, 17HP is not huge step up, it is a huge step down, made for fitting somewhat of a real tractor into a small space. 17HP was never considered a full blown tractor. 35HP in 3500lbs, yes, 17HP in 1500lbs was never, and will never be, and full blown tractor. Full blown tractor starts at maybe 150HP, and goes through 620HP. Lets remember that the whole SCUT thing for residential use is only maybe 20 years old, and CUTs not much older. Most older tractors around were originally made for farm work, if not field work, not residential or small utility work.

I guess it is all a matter of the times and perceptions. When I was growing up my Dad owned what everyone including him called a "garden tractor" because it primary purpose was to till a rather large garden. We also had a small pull behind bush hog, and several home made tillage implements as well as the belly cultivators that came on it. It was a Farmall Super A. This "garden tractor" is about twice the size of a BX. Fully ballasted (as ours was) about 3450 lbs with 16 PTO horsepower. About 106 inches long and about 55 inches wide with clearance of over 21 inches. Yes it is built nothing like a modern SCUT and weights a lot more and certainly sits a lot higher, but people called it a "garden tractor". Many modern SCUTS have more horsepower. By the way the thing drank regular gasoline, and was pretty thirsty too.

Can't we just treat all our "tractors" the same? We need to get our politician's to pledge a tractor fairness law, I'm sure there is a garden tractor somewhere that thinks it is a Utility tractor and deserves to be treated the same. lol

Keep feeding the little ones all the diesel they can eat, and work them every day... they can grow up big and strong, and be Utility tractors some day.:D
