How much logging with how little a tractor

I have done a fair amount of logging with a Ford 8N and a Farmi winch which now resides on the back of my 30hp. Kubota. I have moved some pretty good size logs with it, the record log was a 51" diameter by 12 feet long white pine stem.

If you think you are going to have the inclination to remove some trees for saw logs over the time you are there I would seriously consider a loader/trailer combination. Baileys has a unit in their catalog for under 10K that will allow you to load and transport logs.

The advantages of a loader/trailer package are many, first you can move much more material if it is sitting on wheels.
Second the trees stay cleaner not having to drag them in the dirt, you do much less damage to the ground and your roads also.

Couple the tractor with a winch to bunch your logs and then come back with the trailer and pick up your load. The grapple loader also will let you move other things like rocks and brush. You can build a nice stone wall with the help of the grapple loader.

Cutting and splitting your fire wood in the woods saves you the time and hassle of handling it many times. I don't know what I would do without my winch when it comes to fire wood gathering.

Well,

That is what I do for a living.

Graduated college in 95. Spent a couple years flying amphib 185s and 206s and Caravans in NYC and Costa Rica.

Flew charter in 206s and 210s and such. Flew a Caravan on a UPS freight run. Flew a Saab 340 for 4 years plus. RJ a little bit.

Now fly a Citation Excel.

Lots of others here and there. Gliders, experimental... all kindsa stuff.

Got to support tractor habit somehow!

Sounds like you took the corporate route. Smart, if you did. I graduated Riddle in '90, started flight training a couple years after that and ended up in the airline world. Now I'm a post 09-11 furloughee re-thinking my career. I wonder how I could make money on a tractor?

From what I hear, in the early 70s a lot of students got tempted to do the drug running. Back then they weren't really doing much to stop the flow.

Now.. even an honest person gets gang raped after flying back from anywhere in central/south america.
