Oil & Fuel How Much Oil is in the Tank on a PT425?

With Autozone running a $6/quart special on Mobil 1, including the 20W/50, I was thinking of moving my PT425 over to synthetic oil. I can't seem to find any postings showing the overall capacity. How much oil would I need to buy?

OK, sorry - I found it on the PT site - 10 gallons. T8 Class

So, at $24/gallon, that's $240 bucks!

Do you guys think its worth it?

The last time I checked, Mobil 1 15w50 was about $21 a gallon at Walmart... don't know what the current price is. If you can buy it in gallons, rather than quarts, it will be cheaper.

That's what I used to top off my system after installing the new wheel motors. I'd already changed the dino oil for Amsoil 20w50. Rather than hassle ordering another gallon, I just picked up a gallon of Mobil 1 at WalMart.

You'll notice a slight improvement in low-end torque, especially when working the PT hard such as mowing, and the hydraulic oil is hot...

Only you can decide if it's worth it. I will say that when I drained mine, at less than 300 hours, it was full of microscopic bits of metal that would glitter in the sunlight... makes me want to figure out a way to put a magnet in it to trap those suckers.

I've considered either putting one of these in

Oil Filter Metallic Shaving/Particle Retainer - Oil Changes - Car Maintenance - Griot's Garage

Or possibly modifying the oil dipstick to have a honking-big-magnet dangling on the end of it.

Ken is going to chime in with his amazing magnet fix for the PT.

He sent me one I have yet to install.

That said, I just attach bar magnets to my filter. 3 or 4 high quality magnets to the trick.

I had to go to at least two and maybe three Walmarts to get enough 20W/50 for my 422. Originally it had 5W30 dino. I noticed a big improvement in torque for that reason and torque does not fade as much when hot.
