The correct answer is a case of beer. You do the work, he buys the beer.

I wouldn't, if he gets hurt on that machine it can be your ***. If he wrecks or damages the machine-you are liable. If the machine is insured and you rent it, your insurance is void. It's jut not worth the hastle.

Man it isn't worth it they can hurt things you wont see for years maybe but at that point its on you. I am with some of these other guys just hire out or just do it as a good neighbor rather than rent it. my 2c

What ever you charge, it won't be enough to pay for the repairs that will be needed to the tractor that will be inflected by
someone that does not have anything invested in it.
or who dosen't have
experence using it .
The guy that wants to use it is right next door and I see him every day. He has done things for me in the past and the least I
can do is let him use this.
Also he has run this type of equipment his whole life.
I think the better idea is you let him use it with you being the operator at no charge.

Charging for it leads to all kinds of legalities .
Even doing it for free can be costly for you due to insurance non coverage issues.

18 dollars an hour? The rental companies rent equipment by the day (8hrs), but typically the actual running time of the machine is less than 8hrs. Most projects are not pure machine time, so it can be hard to get full use of the machine. Therefore, the actual hourly rate is higher than you think.

No rental without the operator. Rented out my BX24 for close onto 3 years for $50/hour. Some adjustments in price depended on duration and who it was for, but the standard rate was $50.

Aside from the liability of renting the machine to someone with unknown training, you'll hold a grudge forever if they rent it and break it...no matter who they are.

You and the machine and nothing else. That's my recommendation...:D

I agree with this 100%..

I would however rent my machine WITH OPERATOR

My machine doesn't go anywhere without me operating it.

I do favors for my friends, and sometimes they do favors in return, but I never rent it out. Too much liability, no insurance for that.

Now, if after the work is safely done, my friend wants to offer something, to pay for the fuel, or whatever, I sometimes accept, but only after my machine is safely home. I would vastly prefer that he do something for me in return which does not involve the exchange of money, other than filling the tank.

In my case, I would not rent out my tractor, mostly because it is not the easiest to operate since there is no printed gear pattern and a few things not to do like pulling the throttle all the way down, that shuts it off, not operating on hills without weights on the front, liability, etc. But I have lent out some of my stuff including my landscape rake to my neighbor. The story was that he was considering purchasing a new landscape rake from Kubota but he only needed it once. So i figured that since i had a landscape rake, i could lend it to him for a few weeks. He is retired and takes excellent care of his tractor (B2320) and there was no damage done to the rake. He got his task complete, and I felt good that i had saved him $$$. I have also borrowed my neighbors BX24 a few times and always make sure it comes back full of fuel no matter how much was in it prior, fluids checked, and having it washed off after use. In turn i have helped him around his place, in fact i am feeding his horses through the weekend while he is on vacation. I would go by a trust deal, if you feel that you really trust the person than everything should be fine. It sounds like he will be doing some pretty light work with the BX, all i would be concerned about is the hydrostatic fan since it can be damaged easily if you use the tractor in locations with sticks and debris protruding from the ground.
